Just one thing, do they restrict your vision such as when coming onto roundabouts or do they just sit in the same line as the pillar?[/QUOTE]

I have a bodged one on mine, no or very little sight restriction, only prob I find is I hit it getting in and out sometimes,
I definitly have one of these.

If this is going to be a group buy, does anybody have any recommendations of what gauges to put in ie brand names. Ive heard some stories about the cheap ebay 1s so dont want to go down that route!

Seconded! I got a set of Peak Warn Stepper Motor Series gauges (52mm), you can see an example of one flashing a warning in my signature, they're very high quality gauges and you can daisy-chain power supply to them easily

Yes Andy, they will restrict a little bit your 2 o'clock vision, but once you got familiar with this issue your behavior will adopt with time.

So called "Plastic texture" paint as a base, i.e.:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLASTIC-BUMPER...item5639a0f4cb
And then use a "Ford Polar Gray" as colour very close to original.

52mm for me, not sure how they can be 52/60 universal, do you need a spacer on a 52?

Just a word of caution with regard to the restriction of vision caused by these............... I always planned to install a triple 60mm gauge pod, but recently drove a VR4 with a GReddy gauge pod installed.................. just how much it restricted the view was a shock and very disappointing..................

I have now gone off the idea of these somewhat. I would strongly suggest anyone thinking of one of these, to go out of your way to test drive someones car with an 'A' pillar pod installed so you can make up your own mind if this vision restriction will be a problem for you or not................ Yes, you can "adapt" to it but it does make for a very large blind spot so I suggest you first "try before you buy".

Just my 2 cents worth from what I found.

These will also be illegal in NZ as the guage sits past the steering wheel. I attempted to make my own a fewq years ago, but my skills with bog are.... well.... crap, it would have come out OK but I lost intrest. As far as the vision issues, if you mounted them as low as possible (not as far up the pillar) I would imagine this would be a better option. Greddy do have these for the VR4 but there may be issues fitting non-trust guages into them.

Interesting Richard as I've heard the same "illegal" statement before but I see cars running around with gauge pods all the time ............. and the car I refer to has a warrent/got warrants with the triple gauge pod fitted............ I've since removed them as they were very 'in your face' and just not in an easy to read location.......... too close to your face to be able to quickly glance at and see what was what on the gauges and thus making you look away from the road for too long. Gauges need to be more in your line of sight and not requiring a long look away from the road, in my opinion.

it is to do with the impact standards that anything forward of the steering wheel has potential to cause injury if hit.

Like anything you can get a warrant if the inspector doesn't know, how many people have uncertified brembo's on thier VR4 that don't get questioned?

At the end of the day you might get away with it but if you have an accident say good bye to being insured.

Any one still going to make one of these? Thinking about trying myself, but I'm rubbish at fabricating things.
