    Remote Central Locking Question

    Hi Guys,

I've searched for this and can't find an answer... so here it goes.

I own a 99' JDM VR4 Galant Series 2. When I recently purchased the car 2nd hand I was only given a copy of the original key... nothing else. I wanted to get my central locking functional, so I purchased an MN141117 key brand new from Japan which came with two buttons.

I can get the car into programming mode (hearing the doors lock, then unlock) but then when I press the LOCK button on my new key three times in a row I get nothing. I've tried this close to 20 times now i'd imagine and i'm ready to send it into orbit.

I've checked the battery which works in my Subaru's remote so it isn't that.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I'm wondering if because the key is brand spanking new from Mitsubishi that I may need to activate it somehow. Also, can anyone tell me where the receiver is in the car? I want to make sure that it is receiving power also.

    Thankyou in advance!

    Dan

Is MN141117 original key for your car?
The receiver is on the picture... But if you can get the car in programming mode - the receiver working as it should.

I guess, the problem is, that your new key is not suitable for the cars receiver...

MN141117 is supposed to be correct for the Facelift model (series 2). The series 1 was supposed to come with a single button remote, whereas mine has 2 buttons.

Thanks for the picture, i'll try and locate it in my car.

It's not really a clever idea to be (a) reproducing information from a paid members area (b) info & location of locking/immobilizing devices for our cars on an open forum. I know you're pissed off that it's not working, but having this info out in public is not a good idea as you never know who's reading.

Im sorry you feel that way. The information i've reproduced is readily available via a quick google search, it is in the car manual and several other threads on this forum.

It's in our members area to keep it out of public view, not to entice membership. If Dan wants to reproduce it he's got every right, if it's a good idea or not, well, I'm not going to comment.

If you guys actually have a think about what someone would need to do to use this information for "evil" purposes, it doesn't make sense

    1. They need to break into your car
    2. They need a key for your car to turn it to ACC, OFF etc (per the instructions)
    3. They'd need another key fob to send the new code

Once they're done, all they can do is lock and unlock your car? I think the fact that they already have your keys is probably a bigger concern.

Anyway, i've removed the instructions. I didn't mean to cause any harm, I just fail to see how they are dangerous in any way as to complete them you need the cars keys anyway
