North West meet 30th April 2011

Me & my best mate were planning on paying a visit to the Jennings Brewary http://www.jenningsbrewery.co.uk/, then a recent post by Keith (valleyforge) wanted to do a North West meet, so i thought why not combine the two. I know its close to Japfest boys and girls but for those who cant afford to go i present an alternative.

So the plan is to meet up in the lake district possibly somewhere in Kendal then take a sprited drive across the lakes & end up at the Jennings brewary in Cockermouth sample some of there fine beers, then a curry afterwards then a few more beers. Then stay at Cockermouth then drive back home the next day. So if anyones interested and has any brilliant sugguestions please attach interest to this thread.

    Thanks
    Rob

This must mean then a meet in Kendal, a drive to Cockermouth, park the cars near the hotel we are staying over in, a walk to the brewery for the tour, a tour with some samples, a walk back to the hotel, a evening in Cockermouth with a curry-meal, a few more drinks and a stop over in Cockermouth.

Breakfast next morning and a spirited drive home.

Maybe just me but its the brewery-driving bit that Iam just not getting

sonds good i will try and make this one, it seems like it could be a good luagh.

but what do you think of making the first meet point south of the hard nott and rhiro pass, then we can go up through there to ambleside then out the back of there, over the kirkstone pass, down by ulswater up to A66 go left towards keswick then on towards cockermouth but you have choice at this point,
    either:-
leave A66 at Braithwait and carry on to wards cockermouth on B5292..
or carry on the A66 to cockermouth.

    what do you think?

I thought Kendal would be a good place to meet as its not too far off the m6 (for those without sat nav. Can still travel up to Ambleside then go up the kirkstone pass up to ulswater then across the a66 to Keswick then Cockermouth. Is this route up to ulswater a good route Dave do you have previous knowledge?

Hell got a good run up to all the B&Qs around the lakes in the wagon tomorrow. Lancaster, Penrith, Barrow, Workington, Carlisle and then over to the North East on friday. That should be fun around those lovely winding roads. Might just take the camara to get some arty type calendar come Scania catologue shots LOL.

The meet sounds a good one. I think me and Mandy should be up for this.

i have had a look at the map and yes the hardknott pass and wrynose pass are a too far out of the way to just start at one end and end up in ambleside, but they are well worth a detour, although it would probably be a couple of hours to go there and back.
so we start in kendel head to ambleside.
head out from ambleside on A593 toward coniston
go right on to little langdale road.
follow it round to the wrynose pass
    carry on through Hardknott pass
end up on the road to eskdale.
you may not agree with this but my personal choice is to go back the way you have just come, the way back looks completely different to the way there. and there are plenty of picture opertunities at the top of the pass and again down in the bottom of the vally (multi car shots withhils in the back ground).
then back to ambleside and up going out of the back over kickstone pass, have a stop in the car park by the pub at the top (kirckstone pub highest pub in the england).
then down the back of kirckstone pass and along ulswater right up to to A66
    left toward keswick and cockermouth

not sure how long this total jurney will take, what was the ETA at the jennings brewery in cockermouth. as that would dictate if it is possible to do the hardknott and wrynose pass.
i am not trying to push everybody into doing it, it would just be a shame not to see them and have a chance to drive them if you are going up to the lakes anyway.
i suppose it would be pointless doing the passes if the weather is really crapy.

Dave that sounds like a good drive, however can i make an alteration. At Eskdale instead of going back to Ambleside go to Holmrook, then up the A595 to Egremont then travel up the A5086 up to Cockermouth. As this will probabily keep us busy for a several hours before the brewary tour at 2 oclock. I havent booked the tour yet as i am not sure on numbers yet.

EXCUSE ME. Have any of you guys got a bloody big toe rope so that I can tie it round your bumper and you can pull me along at a more respectable VR4 speed. LOL.

I think if this is the route you will lose me cause I know you guys, with the deepest of respect, will want to NAIL the excellarators to the floor, and dont say you wont.

I think that we will stay at the back let you guys shoot off and we will catch up.

I think this should be put up with my avatar. "The only Galant that is totally standard, never been messed with, aways starts first time, well up to now anyway, never been in the garage due to tinkering around with and broke cause the onwer could not put it back together on the day, still looks good, even when its not been washed for a while, looks the bees knees under a street light and looks like it could be just as fast as the other cars in the line up, at a group shot VR4s and other fast motors, but really isnt".

    UNLESS YOU KNOW DIFFERENT.

Hardknott and wrynose are not quick roads but they are beautiful to look at,

Robbo, this is only a sugestion of a route, this is your outting and i am happy to go along with whatever you descide. It takes a lot of time and planning to get one of these things off the ground. And quite often the simplest route it best so all can enjoy it.
Is it a bank holiday weekend on the 30 april?
The lake district gets absolutly rammed with cars on a bank holiday and things soon grind to a hault round amblside and it can take ages to get through.
