Air Conditioning Refrigerant - How Much?

    Hi all,

I got my dad to whack my VR-4 onto the air con machine at his work a few weeks back, and we scrolled through the menu on it, and found a 1998 Galant 2.5 V6, all good we thought, and proceeded to put in some refrigerant.

It worked fine for a few days, but packed up after that.

Someone else on another forum has recently had their A/C regassed on another car (Merc S-Class), which comes with either just front A/C, or with rear A/C too. The place he took it to put in enough refrigerant for the system with rear A/C, when he's only got front.

Same symptoms as mine - worked fine for a couple of days, then stopped.

Had the A/C re-done with the correct amount, and it's been fine since.

Therefore, I'm wondering whether 1) my A/C is just knackered!, or 2) the N/A V6 A/C system is slightly different to the VR-4's A/C system, and requires different amounts of refrigerant, causing the same issue.

Does anyone know exactly how much refrigerant should be in the A/C system of a VR-4?

    Cheers!

V6 and VR4 got the same A/C system and requires 670-710g of R134

Just the info I need. Do you know how much oil needs to be added to the system also?
Less a Driver of a VR4, more an owner of a pile of parts...

120 mL in the compressor from factory... When system is in operation, there will be 15mL in condenser, 60mL in evaporator, 10mL in reciever and 10mL in suction hose. The rest is in compressor

How the hell do you know this !!

I undid the two fittings to the condenser, while the system was still charged, how much would I have likely lost? definitely lost a bit as there was oil about after.

Or will il all come out if a the fridge guy at work vaccums the system?

My guess is it will lose around 20-30mL, but I'm not sure, cause I've never opened the fully charged system yet
The oil will not come out when you evacuate, only air

Reason my A/C stopped working wasn't due to incorrect levels of refrigerant... ok, well *technically* it did - but only because I didn't have enough... well... any!

So, I need a new evaporator unit under the dash, I've posted up a WTB thread.

Cheers for the information, GalantOnly, I will ensure the machine puts the correct amount in when we finally gas it up again
