Group Buy: Cam regrinds ROUND 2 discussion

Righto there seems to be alot of intrest in other people joining in on the cam regrind and valvespring buy I am organising here
    http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthr...regrinds/page3

but cannot afford it until later in the year.

this thread is to set a date for when in the year this shall take place and who will be in for it..

the people who have mentioned intrest for a buy later in the year sofar is

    -Marksanne
    -Taupodrifta
    -thefelipeth
    -Adie
    -Gly
    -fully
    -swinks
    -kojjachi
    -dutch driver (GDI cams)

    possibly
    -Illegal
    -Foxdie

If you are intrested please verify when would be a good date for you and if you have spare cams or you need to get some as once some of the people who are in on the first buy install the ground cams into their engines they will have to do something with the stock ones they remove so could be sold on to those intrested in the 2nd buy in.

June onwards suits roughly, maybe sooner want to clear my debts before more money gets spent on the car.

    Yes i have spare cams.

i would be cams only at this stage. springs if the funds allow

final decision depends on how these perform.

My understanding of the original thread is that the cams will not work without the new springs. As the VR-4 springs will bind with the increased lift.
So the springs are a same time requirement.

Adam, I am not interested but curious what the cost would be to make new billet cams rather than regrinds? And more specifically for the MIVEC set (so, 48 lobes total).
Also, with 10.5mm lift are you sure the lifters will be ok?

@marksanne will you require cams or do you have your own set to send in?

    and SPETZ
The lift has been reduced to 9.8mm so make it work with unshimmed standard lifters and stock rockers
He can do billet cams but I do not know how much it would cost as i have not enquired as 264 degrees and 9.8mm lift is more then enough for most people after a bit more performace without seriously hurting down low torque and so on
a billet cam could be relativly expensive i could imagine, well alot more so then the $630 for a normal regrind.
if you were to regrind just 24 high lift and duration lobes which could be reground for more top end power then leave the low lift low duration lobes alone to maintain low down power. it would just make it a much bigger "kick" when mivec engages.

In my case late October, November is the option. Definitely will go for it. Have no spare cams to make at the moment, but hope that till then will get one.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

The problem is there will be too big a gap of power, as the primary cams wont make decent power past 5,500 and the secondary cams won't come in until later in the revrange.
However this is still a fairly decent compromise for a fairly mild upgrade

Update for those people who are intrested. the first set of reground cams went into carl's (aka patron999) galant today the performance increase is quite large, very very small sacrifice of low down torque for a masive gain in 4krpm+ power. it seems to help the turbos flow a little bit more up top also. carls galant felt like it pulled much harder @ 10psi then my legnum does on 15psi of boost. hopefully carl himself can post up soon with his opinion after a bit more driving time.
Will ask carl to update again after he has flashed KSmods extended maps on and tuned the fueling and ignition maps. hopefully there is more to be pulled from it again
also carls galant remained lifter tick free with the reground cams installed
also found out the valve springs supplied are Brian crower brand
    Spring Pressure: BC1100 Seat: 1.550" @ 84 lbs / Open: 1.000" @ 235 lbs / Coil Bind: 0.935" (no machine work required)

That's very promising Adam. Must get then to my bank and apply for loan later this year...
Anyway, you can put kochajj on the late 2nd GB list. He just txt me that he's also in the project.

was a dyno run done before and after to check the difference or is this just a bum dyno and has the ecu been remapped to alter the fuel/timing to suit the new cams
