Long time V6 GLS owner now very proud VR-4 owner

Hello to the Brains Trust of Club VR-4

The day has finally come..... After 8 years of very happy Galant 2.5 V6-24 Estate ownership i have now got my hands on a beautiful Legnum VR-4
Thanks to Registered User HOODY for a great sale.
If you want a quick look you can see his For sale Ad

Now I own my dream car it's a case of what to do with it. I'll start with the basics and get it fully serviced and up to scratch in terms of the Powertrain.
And then I hope the fun will really start.
I plan on keeping the car indefinitely and as such am prepared throw a few quid at it. Upto £5K ish for this year.
I know many threads have been written on the subject, but if anyone with the knowledge and skills can tell me the need to know I'd be very happy.
And it'd help get the project started. Now I'm a fully paid up member I'll learn what i can, but seeing what some of you peeps have done to yours i'd love to short cut the research and get buying what i need.

I hope to get involved with meets and track days as time goes by so i look forward to meeting all those still flying the VR-4 flag and keeping a true classic on the road.

I cant wait to see what the good people of Club VR-4 might have for me.

    All the best
    Regards Dimes

Ta very much chaps. I've cherished every moment since the test drive.
It's booked in on monday to fit the electric leather from my soon to be RIP V6-24, dyna mat boot and doors, new components front and back and new cat1 alarm.
I'm going to wait a few weeks before the full TLC service. I'm hoping you guys are gunna tell me what tuning mods i can get done at the same time.
If you think i should start a new thread somewhere? Please let me know. Complete forum newbie, sorry.

Welcome Dimes. You can put up a list of work the car has had and what your goals are, whether performance, handling, body etc. How has the car been maintained, what oils? This will give members a good point from which to start making suggestions and pointing to links.

The advert shows some of the work but no dates.
Btw those wheels look like a pain to clean!

    Have fun!

If it is a keeper, then I'd suggest underseal check/top up asap. Areas to concentrate on are wheel arches, especially the rears, and inner wings, especially high up by the front struts. Get rid of the gunk by the AYC pump too, and check fuel & brake pipes.

Then this thread might help. Not everyone agrees with exactly how to progress with tuning and performance mods, but this should give you some ideas:

    Hi Jamil
I only really Know what you see in the For sale ad. Last owner was very nice and kept her maintained, it feels very sweet to drive. From this point on it's nothing but the best in terms of oils.
In regards to goals it's handling, performance, body, interior, performance, handling. In the middle of all that it'll be rust proofing and engine dressing.
About the wheels i'm already having nightmares. I think new ones might be in order.

Nice one Nick. Any advice from you is very welcome. What you've done to yours is something truly special.
I haven't had her on the ramp yet but what i can see looks good and clean. The Arches are amazing. Lets hope there's no gremlins hiding underneath.
Is there any chance i could get the car to you for some work? I have a good mate mechanic who i trust to do everything but there's nothing like a true specialist.

    Welcome to VR4 ownership Olie.

As you are in Herts you probably aren't very far away from Nutter Johns workshop (Marsworth nr Tring). Why not drop by and say hello, he is there during the week and most weekends, and I can often be found lurking as well.

What Nick suggested about checking wheel arches and undersealing

Although the car might have been kept in good condition, without knowing for sure how many miles a particular oil has done / cambelt / brake fluids, i would start fresh and keep a detailed log.

An overlooked but important area is to bring the car up to it's original power / performance levels before embarking on upgrades. That means replacing weak piping, wire shields, decoking and so on. A decent wash and wipe down will also bring problem areas up.

    Cheers Tim I'm loving it.
As it happens I'm less than 5 miles from Marsworth. I'll drop in next week. It'd be cool to find you lurking.

Good stuff buddy. It's like you were reading my mind. Everything will be logged under my ownership.
My plans are always to make things as strong/original before upgrading. The shopping basket is getting bigger as we speak. I'll also have a few people go over it with a fine tooth comb next week.
Up on the jacks and me getting dirty this weekend then. Removing interior as well. Fun Fun Fun for me. It's already making me sweat with anxiety.

I'm just down the road in Berkhamsted. I live above the shop so am around most of the time if you want to drop in for a cuppa and take a look at my mods and borrow my G-tech.

Antique John can give you the exact location of John's unit, but its at College Farm, Marsworth. Up the drive to the big green gates then sound your horn and someone will let you into the car park.

I should be about at some point next weekend
