my next step you be get some stainless steel plates made up to fix where the pad edge slide up and down.
i don't know if you will ever be able to get rid of the squeal with those in place.

also the arrow on the shim is the direction of disk travel when the car is going forward, i believe. the brembo pads have an arrow on the back of them also.

by the way, I have a full shim and a half shim (like yours) on all pads. all with arrows on.

    Bye for Now!

Mine only seem to have the full shim on both pads, I made sure the arrow direction was facing the right way when refitting them. Given my thread in the members section I may just have to put up with the squeaking until I sort the other issue out

Well its been a while since the VR-4 has been properly used but I managed to blag some free Mintex Ceratec from Andrew Page earlier Just disassembled, applied and reassembled the brakes so we will see if this helps the squeal. If this doesnt work then I will start from scratch with new discs and pads, hmmm what to go for this time?!

    Just grease all contact surfaces,
I do the following and they are always quiet.

    Grease
    rear pad to shim
    Rear of shim to piston
Slide rails to edge of pad
    Slide pin to caliper
    Slide pin to retaining sping.

But I think you must have the slide rails fitted in the caliper, the edge of the pad slides up against it as you push the pads in and out of the calipers.

This will stop squeal evry time for me, on every different set of pads and disks I have used.
And I just use copper grease. I have to regrease my pads about once a year but I check my pads probably every 6 months so I gease them at this point. I find using an old tooth brush to apply the grease is the easiest way for me, especially on the slide rails.

But I am sure there are other methods that work, but not as cheap as greasing them up correctly, it might take a little longer but well worth it.

Cheers Dave, yeah I greased up all those areas you said and also retaining spring to pad. My little digit is just the right size to get in to do the slide plates. Took me a fair while to do but if it gets rid then i dont mind taking my time. Just taken it for a spin now and had a little squeal going forward but not in reverse?!

Bit strange, but I will be getting a brand new set of Brembo discs and Brembo pads (the ones that are on the Evo's from the factory) next week so I will see what happens when I start from scratch and go through the bedding in process yet again haha.

Maybe Ill swap the discs and pads over to the opposite sides and see if it only squeals in reverse! Discs would then be running the opposite way through the pad hmmm worth a try i spose

Just to put my foot in, I purchased pads and grooved discs from Godspeed when I go my calipers done. Not one squeal in site. Quite impressed with them.

Quick question about seals. Having mine replaced as part of the refurbs. Can either go for genuine or pattern parts. Massive price difference between the two. Has anyone used the pattern ones?

I would get genuine, this is brake seal, needs to be resistant to brake fluid and heat, what is the price difference?

Looking at ebay it seems to be nearly triple. Places like big red who specialise in refurbs sell their own kits.

    Just a quick update:

I purchased a full set of OE discs and pads from Camskill and have just fitted those onto the car so I can start fresh with pretty much new everything. Ran through the bedding in procedure recommended by Brembo and have not heard any squeal at all not even a little. Not wanting to drive it too much due to the fuel filler neck being goosed and not fancying fuel dripping directly onto an uber hot exhaust

Will update again once this is replaced and I can drive her again.
