    magnecor leads

are they worth putting on a VR4? i know a lot of people have them, possibly due to the difficulty in getting standard leads but the engineer who has just checked my car over has tried and binned them straight away on his MR2. im not sure if i have a choice with the 6A13TT only being fitted in a VR4 and so the standard leads are not readily available locally

If I didn't already have Magnecor leads on, I would opt for stocks - they are proven to be reliable at 500bhp! Eurospec had them on the Womble (6A13TT-powered FTO) and I subsequently had them on my engine. No lead problems encountered.

where can you get them Nev? we tried to get a set on friday when a misfire was thought to be the problem and we couldnt find a set anywhere. i dont want to go on ebay and wind up with a really cheap quality set. everything i have bought has been standard or better and even with a limited life span, i dont want crappy products on my car

Camskill, or the Mitsi mean stealership. Although I've just checked the Camskill website and they don't list (either they never have, or they don't any more, I'm not sure which) the stock leads, only the two Magnecors.

The main dealer is still worth a try. Their parts prices almost always surprise me - but probably equally in results that are sky-high or unexpectedly low! Plus they revise their prices every now and then, and certain lines occasionally get slashed in price.

Yeah but there was problems with camskills ones when I bought mine a few years ago. Don't know if they have sorted it out but one of the leads were to shot cause they where for the GTO IIRC.

Ah yes, the 'FTO' ones. They fit, but it would be nice if one of them didn't need stretching! Understand it only applied to the red ones (KV85) though.

how can a car have less leads than cylinders? i know we only have 3 coilpacks but surely that still means 6 leads?

Yep the Red one. The Blue ones don't like the heat in the engine bay I heard & whey I went for the red ones.

But agree with you Nev that after what I read in Ben's thread about the leads I would go with standard ones now as well.

Coilpack on sparkplug at the front, Richie, with three leads running to the back three cylinders. The 6A13TT runs a wasted spark system, so each spark plug fires once when it should do for combustion, then again 180 degrees later (when it has no effect).

so the coil pack fits directly to the front plugs and runs a lead to the rear plugs?

that sounds like my kind of luck Andy. when Bryan was here at the car and needed to know something i couldnt get Nick, Gareth or you. tonight when Calum was here and needed to know how Bryan triggered the problem on saturday i couldnt get hold of Bryan.

which set are best for a standard engine? apart from the bonnet, no mods are going to be done including the MBC

The Red ones if you can't get standard ones. Did you have the leads off before the problem started & were they pushed all the way in till the clicked?

all i know is he pulled them out to show me what the car feels like idling on 4 cylinders then 2 cylinders. i was sat in the drivers seat turning the engine on and off. even with only 2 cylinders it didnt want to die. before we started anything the car was running with the bonnet open and i put my hand on the manifold. if you couldnt hear it you couldnt tell is was running because the engine is so smooth. any engines i have seen before (apart from the supra) has sat there causing vibrations and wobbling about. the VR4 was solid so apparently my engine mounts are fine too
the thing that is really annoying me is that i had just started looking at serviceable items and bought an oil filter when the new problem started. getting a service was postponed to buy the transfer box which i clearly didnt need and now i have been advised to get a full service done. the latest diagnosis is wet weather upsetting the plugs and leads. they would have been done by now if it wasnt for the transfer box. there is definately no problem with the gearbox, prop shaft, diffs or engine. i have been driving like a faggot for weeks and tonight we started off cautiously until i took him for a run during which we hit 6000RPM in 2nd so we were pushing the car and nothing happened but it has been dry today. we have had a lot of rain here over the past month so he could be right
