I have just skimmed through this thread and there does not seem to be any mention that the mileage get stored in the dash clocks to he ecu, so if you change the dash looks you need to change the mileage some how, or not as the case may be.
I have tested this by swapping my dash clock for another st with lower mileage on it just to test it and the mileage changers.
Just thought I would point it out.

    Bye for Now!

I tried with another spare VR4 HC speedo and same result, which I made a short video of: http://youtu.be/ytdBd24cWh0

Only when I connect the original 'analog' / classic speedo the rev needle works as it should.
    Any ideas?
    What car is it, Mark?

It's a regular euro V6 (LHD) 2.5L N/A Galant sedan 1997 Alex. And the winning answer came from Stefan ( @Crazydrive81 ). I just put the all-original V6 HC dash from the VR2 into the V6 N/A and bingo! Now I need to swap over (resolder) the 8-pin eprom from the speedo clock so the milage will be correct again for both cars!

So to conclude swapping in HC VR4 (!) units into V6 N/A cars: the speedo works good, the REVs get wobbly. My old hybrid 260km/h speedo + VR4 rev part is only usable in a VR4 or VR2. And it happens I still have one of those, so I'm a very happy bunny

    Thanks guys!

Allright Thought that is was N/A... It's because the tacho signal comes from distributor in N/A V6, but VR-4's uses ignition failure sensor to generate the pulses. So the tachos are not interchangable

edit: I never tried that, but the tacho signal for the VR-4 rev counter, possibly can be used from pin 58 of the N/A engine ECU. The wire itself is missing on this pin, but the pin is present. So it might work

i replaced hi vis with hi vis one had 100k on one had 80k on.
if fit the 80k dash clock you see 80k.
if you fit the 100k you see 100k.
this is wat i did on my car to test the theory i had a few yeas ago, and i was correct in thinking that the milage is stored in the dash clocks.
i have also proved it is not sored in the ecu as i have had mulipole different \ECU on my car and it has never effected the milage.

you will now know it take about 10min to swap the dsah clocks over,
milage should always be verified by looking at the previous MOT Certificates on line. All MOT info is recorded on the DVLA.gov web site for all UK registered cas.
all you need is car reg number and V5 doc ref number or chassis number and you can see all previous MOT from 2007. which is nice.

Alex, Mark, Dave your last few statements are incorrect
Have no time now, once back to UK will post more. Briefly...
    - recorded mileage is stored in speedo, won't adjust itself due to speedo/tacho unit swap (Dave)
    - rev counter from vr4 (I mean any speeedo/tacho) will work in any v6 or 2.0 Galant n/a, either "classic" or high-vis, some minor soldering to rev circuit board required (Alex, Mark)
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

That's stupid... I recall, that I just used the N/A tacho in VR-4 last month and it went without any problems... So "not interchangable" is incorrect, indeed

Correct: N/A tacho in VR4 works, other way around (VR4 tacho in N/A) not. At least not immediatly, the revs will wobble like you can see at my youtube video.
My VR2 had the N/A tacho in for years now, so that is confirmed Now I will swap that N/A tacho from the VR2 to a 'true' N/A Galant
And put a VR4 (well a hybrid one with VR4 rev counter) in the VR2. Fits the cars and works without fiddling with it

I'm no genius when it comes to electronics (unfortunately) otherwise I would've done like Tomasz suggests and so some cutting and soldering. I'm just not confident enough that I understand it all well enough and I don't want to f up my tacho

I got a problem with my hi vis speedo. I changed it from low-vis ,did wiring modification because illumination wasn't working. With turned off headlights speedo illumination is working perfectly brightness great and when i turn on headlights my speedo gets almost dark with very very small illumination. What problem could it be?

You forgot to connect the dimmer. Or the dimmer is set to the lowest setting.

No worries, it's that little wheel on the black facia that is in front of the hi-vis cluster, just behind the steering wheel.
