    Android tablet query

I've decided to give in to the urge to get a tablet with the money I will hopefully get when I sell my old phone. I know iPads are the business but they're too much money and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for a cheaper android tablet. I reckon I'm looking at about £130 - £150. I bought my boys cheapo ones for xmas and they are crapola so don't want to repeat the mistake. This could be the sort of thing.................

i have just bought my wife a samsung Tab 3 8.0.

it was £199 but it was reduced to £179 and i had £90 in tesco vouchers so i used them for the purchase so it cost a bit less than £90.

and she loves it, she is not a tech person so shys away from calculators.
but she seems to be getting the hang of it, there are loads of you tube videos on how to get started and more advanced videos.

now i am not saying it is the best tablet out there, but she likes it.

i am personally very pi**ed off with IPADS at the moment, as i was bought an IPAD 1 3 years ago, the current IOS is 7 and i can't load anything above IOS 5, i have tried to download a lot of apps rently and all of the will only download if i have IOS 7 others that will download with lower IOS will not download if i don't have a gyroscope in my IPAD which i don;t have, even if the app does not need to ues a Gyroscope. and then other apps will not download if you don't have a camera. which an IPAD 1 does not have.
the IPAD 1 is a perfectly useable tablet and runs all the normal stuff like internet and email and all the apps i have very well. but the tw*ts at apple have descided it is no longer supported so nobody shuold use one anymore.

    pi**ed off ipad owner.

    Bye for Now!

brought an acer table , the same spec as an i pad mini and got a really good right up , it lasted a week in the house before i sent it back , it was bloody awful , keeped locking out and crashing.

i then said to my self if i want an tablet as good as an ipad then i will buy an ipad .

Got an ipad mini for £219 with 2 years warranty form john lewis .

also alot of android tablets do not allow the sky go app which is a big selling point for me in the 1st place for a tablet .

    not a android fan .

had a friend who brought a kindle fire hd and they are well pleased with it .

The Samsung tablets are the way to go. I've dealt with a fair few of them through work and they are really nice to deal with.

iPads on the other hand, don't get me started...

We bought a Hudl just before Christmas. No complaints, but I don't have much to compare it to. I'd have no hesitation about buying another. We also had tesco vouchers and they were doing an offer just before Christmas to double the value of the vouchers on certain products - the Hudl was one, so we got a £120 tablet for £60 of vouchers. I would definitely buy one again at that price! The only other tablet we have is a cheap one for the kids - approx £60 from ebay. The Hudl is massively better.

I think everyone has their own opinion about android/ios. I personally don't like Apple products - I don't like their philosophy. I am not a huge fan of Android either, but I think it is probably the lesser of two evils!

Samsung pads do everything an ipad will and then some. Had a Galaxy Tab 2 10.0 for a while now and it is the boy!

The Note and the smaller Tab do almost as much as the one I got but are still great.......and better than an i-plop.

Nice one, thanks fellas. Lots to go on there. The worst thing about the cheapy ones I bought is the slowness and freezing. On several occasions I have had to put it down and find something else to do before it gets chucked at the wall!

i thought about hudl but i was not sure, the double up offer was very tempting though. the point that swug it for me is vicky is going to get a galaxy S4 phone (or some other samsung phone) and it looks and works in the same way so vicky will not have to learn how to do everything again on the phone when she gets it.

Kids all got Tablets for Xmas but all different. Google Nexus 7, Kidle Fire HD and the Tesco Hudl.. All are performing very well, with no complaints from anyone. I had a kick around on each and must say they all seem to perform decently.
Prices Nexus was £199.. Kindle was £99(Argos Offer) and Hudl £110.

    And some reviews i used.

cheers Glenn - seems like you're in a good position to judge then! The question would be which one would you buy for yourself after seeing all 3 in action?

your 'words not widely used in the UK' link was interesting. After seeing Bugsy Malone many times, I now know what a 'caboose' is! So ta very much -that's UK for very much appreciated ;-)

Google Nexus 7.. Its the most expensive but it wins hands down.. Best screen, best camera, best processor. Nothing seems to phase it.

The Kindle only has front facing camera and no video. The Hudl has the Cam but the quality isnt great for taking nice pics and vids, but it's processor seems to handle gaming pretty well.
The Hudl is the only one out of the 3 with and SD card slot, with does make transferring dat easier.

So all round its the Nexus 7. If you want a camera and your on a budget then it would have to be the Hudl, which also has micro HDMi.If your not bothered about a camera and on a budget then it would be the Kindle(But only at £100 offer price) If its full price then i'd go for the Hudl on a Budget.
    Hope that helps

    Cheers

    Glenn
