    Red face Another newbie

    Hi
thought Id better say hello rather than just lurk. I myself have not got a VR4 but drive a Skoda.

I have just obtained a Legnum VR4 with tiptronic for my Mum who is 73. As a family we do quite a bit of drag racing at RWYB events and when Mum came for her first time she blew the box on her Micra but enjoyed the day. So much so she is now a real pest constantly ringing me up to take her for days at Santa Pod and Shakespeare Raceway. A year after blowing her Micra and using her Fabia she has seriously stressed a V6 2.5 Rover 75 with 125 of nitrous to a 14.37 second pass @ 98mph.

She is working her way up in performance and when a friend rang me up and said he had a car for mum I was thinking another micra but NO he sold me his VR4! 4x4, twin turbo 2.5 v6 - this should be good for a 13 second pass or better for a little old lady.

Mum will be racing it this year so I am hoping to steadily modify and change things so she can steadily get faster!

When I found Club VR4 I thought I would join and hopefully get modifying ideas from here as well as other tips on repairs and spares. I do all my own mechanics and have a fair bit of kit. If you cant find the special tool in MY workshop, we go off and make it.

Anyone got any experience of nitrous on a VR4?

    Hi Steve,

Welcome to the forum, excellent to hear that your mum is into quarter mile action. Theres a small few on here with experience of Nitrous. Some love it, some will tell you the horror stories!

I'm sure they'll be along soon. Slow forum day today!

There are a couple of people that used to run nitrous at Santa Pod on here. Mid 12s with 150 jets seemed to be the limit for both of them without spending a lot more money. Both were running around 330 bhp without the nitrous and both had auto boxes. A healthy auto vr4 should do a mid 14 quarter, high 13s are easy to get to but 12s are much harder.

Thanks - its great to know others here run the 1/4. Mum wants a 13 but as you know - once you hit the target you just move it further away! she will want a 12 at some point so no doubt I will be into heavy mods soon then!

Fastest my purple ran was 13.8 a couple yrs ago with manual boost control set to ~1 bar, 2.5" cat back, decat pipe and hard pipe kit. Stock ecu, stock map with fuel cut still on, stock fuel, stock intercooler and stock downpipes.

My dads ran a 13.6 with the same mods but ralliart panel filter, stainless downpipes and uprated fmic and only 10psi boost.

Hopefully get to take the silver beast for a blast down the strip at some point but just have 1 more issue to solve first.

Just out of interest where would you getting you nitrous from and what is the price per lb. I looked in to running nitrous and the refill places I found were charging about £7+ per lb which is quite expensive to run if a 20lb bottle which lasts maybe 45-60sec or so depending on the size of the jets.
£140 for 4 or 5 runs down the track.
I can't afford to run it.

But would love to fit the kit I have just experience the effect I would imagine it would be very addictive.

    Bye for Now!

We are currently having to spend £10 per pound. All the refill places near me are no longer doing nitrous as they have either stopped racing or changed to a fuel only motor.

I could get a bottle from nitrous supplies and refill myself but this is hassle with the current lack of room in the workshop!

I am using Websters who are just next door to Santa Pod now.

It is a bit pricey but Mum loves it and is finding the habit hard to kick - she was running 125 shot on her Rover 75 and was doing 15 lb a day.

Love it, 15lb a day, that is a habit I would like to have.

Thanks for the update on the location and prices, very helpful.

Welcome! You've got quite a special mom!
I don't know if the VR4 will be used for racing only, but if so: strip it and loose some weight. They're not lightweight cars in their standard form

Well unfortunately time has been against me as usual - I spend 3 hours a day getting to and from work! My mum has decided the Legnum isnt FAST enough!
I didnt want to damage the car as I knoiw she wants me to build her something smaller. So without any interior the car ran 14.4 @97 mph. The car is definitely fast and fun but not consistent on the 1/4 mile (too hard to stabilise the temperatures) and ran everything from 14.9 to 14.4 in a day. It might be better with nitrous but I am wary of damaging a car that will take me ages to fix - our motorsport is done on a TIGHT budget!

So now the legnum is back together and for sale
