Tar doing that now. Everything for this dam car has to come from nz! Might as well get a container for all the bits.

you could go down the evo route and use honda coil packs, you would have to wire it up yourself and make some brackets to hold the coil packs but civic coil pack are readily available over here in the UK you just have to do a bit of research and hunting around for the infomation.

    Bye for Now!

As long as it works i can cope with custom work. Coils arnt so much a problem its getting the wires correct so they spark the correct coil at the right time and not the wrong coil.

I havent had time to look but im asuming we have 3 pin coils if so ill just copy the evo line. Need new cover for front bank anyways so gives me a good reason to build a plate that holds the coils and run the wires under it. Didnt realise 1 coil fired 2 plugs at same time thought it had 2 coils in one but used ht leads as was easyer if a coil gave up to change.
I have 2 engines and wires im sure i can find a braker civic to take the plugs from. All going well ill give my single coil convertion out to otheres at cost of the plate and plugs and you guys can buy your own coils.
Im all for helping others if its an easy mod to do we can all do it cheaply then why bother replacing the stock setup when a better option is about.

Have some reading at MLR forum, search thread DIY COP, there you will find also where to get cheap spare plugs and sockets for wiring. Evo use Toyota Starlet/Yaris coils for conversion. I did mine, pretty much cheap and easy conversion. In VR4 due to the difference in spark plug well, some used Honda coilpacks.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Asuming the wires are 3 pin its fairly strait forward split the earth with 2 wires same with live and with trigger and run to 2 coils do this for all 3 job done then all i have to work out is the live earth and last one left will be trigger ill just use power probe to find which is which.

the choice is either doing a plug and play with no wiring/soldering e.g. use the same connector that is on the original coil pack which splits to 2 new coil pack plugs which ever you decide to use. then replicate 3 times for all cylinders. this can get a little bit expensive depending on how much the connectors cost.
or do a permanent install and cut the original loom connector off the VR4 loom then solder on 6 connector that have been salvaged from a civic loom to create a 6 plug coil pack loom soldered into the vr4 loom.

i have got all the parts to do the permanent job, but like always i have other stuff to do first.

be careful with coil pack you pick as some have straight connectors and some have right angle connector coming out of the coil pack.
i have the EP3 coil pack, i am not saying this is the correct one it was just my choice, on the second hand market, expect to pay approx £10 per coil pack and £10 ish for 4 coil pack connector. this is just a rough estimate.
certainly cheaper than going new parts.
then it is the bracket/plates required to mount the coil packs on to.
on the OZVR4 thread there is a very good guide to show you how to mount shape and create your own version.

i think the whole lot should be doable for about £100 at cost price but that does not include any time to build and install the kit.

Time is semi on my side as all bits ordered i cant do anything but wait so im going to call our parts suppliers and find out which are the cheapest, might look into bmw coils as there are just push fit but i have a few sitting around of diffrent types so might look to see if they fit. Ill prob do a plug and play this way if i choose to change the coils to stock or drop the engine out i dont have to get to the coils first.

That is a good point about the plug and play option.
Or you could get a smaller box plenum made up so the plugs injectors etc are accessible when the plenum is in place.
When I say you could get one made it is not exactly an trivial matter. But you get what I mean.

Problem with changing plenum is trying to get equal air into each cylinder and getting good air flow in as well and tying to get it all under the bonnet

to be honest from what i have read it is a lot more critical for non turbo engines, with regard to equal length and correct length of runners for a given rev range hence why most non turbo engine now have variable length runners governed by rpm. cheap cars 2 length runners changed by a flap opening. expensive cars constantly variable to be on the the best torque for a given RPM.

turbo car seem to be happy with a wedge plenum (larger at the trottle body and smaller at the furthest away cylinder) runner length can be minimal. i am dumbing down the design quite a lot but it is not critical compared to the Non turbo plenum.

i believe the evo guys fit EP3 civic coils but the DIY COP thread on MLR should confirm as swinks mentioned above.

Nope. In Evo we use Toyota coils, 4-pin socket but used only 3 pins. All connectors, plugs, pins are from Spoolinup website.
