    Squeaky/rattely rear hatch

Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop the rear hatch door on a legnum from squeaking and rattelling? Iv wound out the rubber stops to nearly the last and still no success. Is it something that can be solved or will i just have to turn up the stereo?

i have seen squeaky estate hatches in the past and they have been fixed by applying some insulation tape to the lock hoop on the floor of the boot, it seems a bit odd but the squeak can be just the lock rubbing the hoop.
the tape will give you an instant indication if it is the lock hoop squeaking. if it is then the tape will only be a temp fix it will get rubber through and the squeak will come back. you will have to find a more perminant fix for it.

i came up with a fix for my dads old car and it was a small section of PTFE tube with a slit down one side so it can slip over the lock koop top bar.
i dont know if this would work on a VR4 tail gate but it is worth checking.

    Bye for Now!

No. Its definately steel on steel rubbing and rattelling.

@ Davezj, I tried the insulating tape trick a few weeks back and it did work but for a very short while before the catch munched through it again.

I was thinking maybe a light nylon sleeve over the front of the hoop to take up the slack between it and the lock. Would have to be very light though and would probably end up breaking. Worth a shot though.

Every hatch door vehicle Iv ever owned has had a squeaky rear

this why i suggested PTFE or teflon tube as these are very hard waring and should last.
tefon and PTFE tube is readily available in many different diameters so you should find something.

Cheers Dave. I'll have a go at that tomorrow or the next day and report back.

For now though I'll just dust off my old metallica collection

I know this thread is old. But I had a rattling of what I took to be the whole tailgate rattling in the lock mechanism. There are two rubber stops like those on the bonnet to adjust the bonnet height.

find these on the underside of the tailgate and turn them so that they protrude more and apply more closed position pressure to the chassis.

    This worked for me.

Excellent advice, it is the first time I have head that.
I knew there was rubber stop blocks on the body to stop the tail gate bashing into it but I did not know about the adjustable stops on the tail gate itself.
