Tipping point? ANy local Legnum heads take a look at my ride?

Hi, not been on for ages, not been driving the car for 6 months.

I am at the point where I have to decide to throw some money at the car or let it go, or both. Its been running great and still looks goodbut I have a couple of issues and would love to take it to someone who knows to tell me whats up and what the damage might be.

I have an oil leak from the top of the engine, the bonnet cable has just snapped and I have a noise from the back end that could be the diff, it could be allsorts also i think.
I had the split diff/AYC fluids changed which made no difference and the oils came out fine. The LPG system missed its last 2 services and has a slight leak so I havent used it for a while. I know its a cheap fix and a £100 service.

ANyway, anyone fancy taking a look I can travel.

    Many thanks

    Hi Paul

I'm in Mansfield, and know my way around a VR-4. You'd be more than welcome to pop down for a chat, cup of tea and a little session taking a look at some stuff.

im in hull. im available at my unit from 9 till 430. if you can get down we can have a look to see what the problems are. the oil from the top of the engine would probably be rocker cover gasket. the noise from the back might be wheel bearing or prop shaft bearing if you only hear it whilst moving.

Sorry for the late replies lads ive been sorting the bike out.

Ill get back to you in a few days and book something in. Thanks for the replies by the way I appreciate it.

BTW, the bonnet cable isnt working, I presume its snapped, the bonnet is open but safe, are these hard to source/change?

Cable may just have stretched and then come detatched from the lever in the cabin. You should be able to re-tension it under the bonnet.

Update on the car, havent had time to call over to either of you guys but again thanks for the offer.

MOT today....passed with only 3 advisories, the oil leak is from the top so no problem, bonnet cable re tensioned, im getting the lPG sorted after Christmas, the noise is still there but not getting worse so the Leggy is back on the road with 4 refurbed wheels and driving great!

I know you like to hear these cars are not getting scrapped or broken so I thought Id let you know.

    Cheers

    Needed to relight this post.

Im after the closest reliable mechanic to diagnose and fix the grinding noise from the back. I can hear it slightly when im not accelerating but it comes on when I do. not a constant level its an undulating waveform, like something going round and getting worse at the same point speeding up as I do. This is the only thing wrong with the car but its definately getting worse and the Mitsubishi garage dont have a clue.

    cheers

I had a bad wheel bearing at the back that made very dying-diff sort of sounds, that was very sensitive to road surface and speed. even when removed the bearing didn't feel fad, and it never had any play.

I had a brake line fitting that caught on the inside of the wheel for ages. Couldnt diagnose it on any ramp and eventually found it by fluke while i was trying to clean the Carbotech dust off the wheels!

I also has a rumbly wheel bearing - but there was no bearing movement, it was just noisy.

I too have had a bit of a rumbly noise from the back, which was a wheel bearing. It showed no play when on the car, but once removed it was rough as a badger's backside. The new bearing was smooth as silk.

Have also had same from the front end more recently, which my dad initially thought was a CV joint, but we changed the bearing and that too went quiet.

This is getting worse and i need it sorted, good news that it might be a bearing, but the noise increases due to acceleration, not necessarily speed if that makes sense.

Who is the closest VR4 mechanic to Shefield, I dont want to drive it far until I know what it is?
