You don't need tax to get to MOT, as long as you are insured & the MOT is booked, you are ok. I got pulled over in a car registered in Japan once as I was driving to the MOT. Car wasn't registered here as needed MOT first. If the MOT is not booked & you are caught driving it, thats a problem

    Congrats on the baby BTW
Possibly the only VR4 that was driven by the current owner before being registered..... & it's a UK car

Thanks for that, its just about 3 miles to MOT guys so not a massive distance, thing is, I make living on driving and CANT get any points or other issues on my licence.

Maybe ask someone (neighbor/friend/family) to accompany you and do the actual drive to the MOT station, just to avoid any risk?

I will try to find something official for you but always used to be you could drive to it but:
    Must have insurance
    Must be pre-booked
You can still be penalised for anything illegal if stopped en-route
You must go straight there (if you stop at the shops, you will get screwed)
Must be within a 'reasonable' distance

    Other options are:
    Trailer it there
Get the garage to collect on trade plates

Here you go, at the bottom:
    https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/when-to-get-an-mot

If the MOT has run out
You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught.

The only exceptions are to drive it:

to or from somewhere to be repaired
    to a pre-arranged MOT test

This is indeed correct, all you need is insurance to take your car for a pre booked MOT.

As you cannot tax the car without an MOT, you are allowed to drive to a pre-booked MOT, call 101 and ask the police if you want to get official proof but I'm 100% certain that is the case.

Can confirm, did this on my own car a few months ago. If there is no tax, the car should be SORN, but if you are on the way to a pre-booked MOT, you are allowed to drive to the test and back.

    Its moted and taxed

Mot guy only point out sills that are more rusty and if not done soonish it become a problem. So I have a blast in it on motorways today, its very nice to drive as a 'virgin' car, not messed up by suspension changes ol polyurethane engine mounts as my other is, and it will stay like that, hopefully, forever.

One very annoying thing so far is fuel gauge, I put 30 ltr on almost empty and needle go up to half way, after driving rather sensible for 50 miles its 2 little dots above last notch, which is annoying and slightly worrying. Question for you guys running on petrol, is that normal? I remember that needle dropping down quickly after half tank but that quick?

Aye. if you say 200 miles for the tank (for easy numbers, depends how you drive) then 80-90 for the top quarter, 40 miles for the next two quarters, rest to petrol light coming on. The top quarter and bottom quarter last LOTS longer than the middle bits. At half way you will have more than half a tank of fuel. The light starts showing with approx 10 litres left in a 60 litre tank. Hope that helps!

That makes sense @Nick Mann as I been driving it for another 20+ miles today and needle almost not move further down, probably just fill it to the brim and see how bad is it.
@Davezj Im not planning to lpg it atm as it should do really low miles so not really worth it BUT its so nice to drive that I may end up using it more often and this will be painful on my wallet, not sure yet whats going to happen, so far I consider to try to map it the way to make it more easy on fuel, change afrs and enrichment tables, this sort of things, not looking to squeeze every last pony from this one.

You should be able to do that.
Might be nice to tune for economy and switch the ECU to multi maps.
Oh depending on the ECU type.
I will have to give Jason a bell and get my 7201 reflash dongle back off him.
Let me know if you need it.

Oh that could be handy if you have 7201 dongle as its a bit hard to get later ecu, so may have to stick with pfl one for a bit.

you cant use kenneths rom on a 7201 but you can still tune the smaller fuel and ignition maps.

Thats the plan Dave, until I find FL ECU which seems like a bit of a challenge this days.
Cant remember but can you adjust boost on 7201?
