    New Legnum owner (UK)

So I am now a proud owner of a 1999 Legnum VR-4. Unfortunately can't drive it at the moment as DVLA doesn't want my money for road tax, will have to wait for logbook to come back with age-related registration and then pay them anyway for the time I wasn't allowed to use it.. other than that, seems a decent motor so far.
I guess it's time to sign up for the full membership to access a comprehensive workshop manual?
Autodata doesn't really help a they don't recognise this car, nor have I managed to establish an OBD connection using Autel AL319 and Delphi..so that's something that still needs working on.
Stripped the interior earlier this week and gave it a good deep clean, also touched up some slight surface rust spots around the cabin and boot..underseal next I guess.
Would appreciate some advice on remapping - as the UK and Japanese conditions are probably quite different (humidity, temperature etc.), has anyone remapped their ECU to best adapt to UK conditions and has that made a significant gain on performance/fuel consumption?
First (and only) time I drove it, I also noticed a noise which kind of sounded like a worn wheel bearing but since it was just MOTd, I assume this is something else - could it have something to do with the 4WD system or center bearing?
    Any advice would be appreciated

Hi and welcome to the club.
Have a search on here for stuff like remapping as there is loads of info about.
The service manual's are OK but the best info comes directly from members on here as we know everything there is to know!

A dry wheel bearing could quite easily pass an MOT test but make a droning noise when driven. You will need to drive it a bit more to get a feeling for the issue.
You can read the diagnostics using the 'flashy dash' method (search for it). It will flash out errors on the dash or you can use EvoScan.

Cheers for that..that actually brings to mind quite an easy question - what's the engine oil capacity on a 1999 VR-4? Anything known to work better than other oils?

Capacity is less than 5l. I'd recommend a quality fully synthetic 0W30.

The car is not OBD compliant, so go for the flashy dash error code method that Tim mentioned - it is the only DIY method guaranteed to work. Evoscan is a useful tool for monitoring the ECU through the OBD port but even that isn't reliable.

If you are free, then picking brains of members is a good start with these cars - you will find a few of us near Stafford in a few weeks. http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthr...6183-Pub-lunch

Was thinking of using TITAN GT1 PRO FLEX SAE 5W-30 – XTL..that's what I used in my IS200 and it seemed to work very well. Just putting together a service kit and get everything ordered in the next few days.
Not decided on spark plugs yet but probably looking at Bosch Super 4s..also from the past experience.
Only found one cone filter option for Legnum on eBay and that is a whopping £99..possibly going for an universal filter and just make an adaptor plate for it.

Will not sure if you see this or not but its fairly fresh list of whats possible http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthr...ecommendations
there's another handy thread must to read http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthr...dling-stalling

I would rather get NGK of Denso spark plugs, oils are well proven to do wonders, especially keep hydraulic lash adjusters quiet and happy, come from AMSoil, and if you have auto box then this is the best what you can get, bar genuine Dia Queen.

Next thing to point out, its been proven that cone filters don't do much good, on some occasions they actually take few ponies away due to heat soak and mess up MAF readings, saying that I run HKS mushroom filter sticking right under vents in bonnet, just for that very addicted whooshing noise.
