Got a new set of Carbotech XP-8 brake pads delivered today, courtesy of http://www.carbotech-europe.com/ as well as a set of standard discs.

Fitted them this evening, then had the fun of going to bed them in!

Got it all nice and hot, including a little flaming - but only because I stopped too early, really, mostly because I wanted to take the photos! I should have continued driving for a few more minutes to let it cool before stopping! But I couldn't resist!

Yep needed more driving to let them cool down with lots of air rushing over them.
But now you have to clean your wheels to get the corrosive dust off them.

I would classify these pics as the Arty side of automotive, nice job.

I'll get the wheels refurbished (again) at some point, and will then cover them in wheel sealant to try to stop them getting too dirty, but I'll never have clean wheels on the front of this car for as long as I decide to continue running with Carbotech pads!

That is true but you can put a price on stopping power.

Regarding LPG, MAP sensor is fitted in rather wrong place.
Pressure reading will be fine but temp reading unfortunately not. MAP should have gas flowing through it just before entering injectors. Where it seats now, there is almost no gas flow at all.

    Ooh yeh,
Is see what you mean, there is going to be very little gas flow at that point. So it could cause an issue. Even the pressure valve could be effected due to the location based it is not a closed pressure system there is a perminant leak on the system and that point will be the lowest pressure in the system after all the leaks have occured (injectors).
I fitted mine on the output of the vap before splitting the flow to each Bank of the injectors.

Where it's at the moment, pressure reading will be correct. Pressure is even on this side of the gas filter (injectors side), what differs is gas flow.
I always fit it as close to the injectors as possible just before injectors, where full gas flow occurs.
Gas temp reading will be as close as possible to the actual temp. that gas achieves just before entering injectors.
    That'smy opinion.

When I get an opportunity I'll look at moving it, but the gas system appears to be running well at the moment

The first stage was to get the bits of software I want installed - which is access to Google Play Store, which isn't installed by default, as Amazon want you to spend money on their app store instead!

But, as the Fire tablets just run on a modified version of Android, most Android apps will run anyway!

Following the below guide, I was able to install Google Play Store, which then gave me access to Google Play Music and Google Maps.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/ama...-fire-t3486603

The following applications are also installed:
    Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ndroid.taskerm)
    AutoTools Secure Settings (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...mgcd.autotools)
    GPS Tether (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...enda.gpstether)

Tasker & AutoTools will provide the necessary automation of enabling/disabling settings, and launching/closing apps etc.
GPS Tether will allow my phone to broadcast its location to the tablet.

Tasker is a hugely powerful application, with many plugins to extend its functionality.

We will use Tasker to do the following on the tablet:

    Power Disconnected
    Pause music playback
    Stop GPS Tether Client
    Switch off Bluetooth
    Switch off WiFi
Set display timeout to 7 seconds (the minimum)
    AutoTools: Location Mode off

    Power Connected
    Disable display timeout
    Launch Google Play Music
    Begin music playback
    Switch on WiFi
    AutoTools: Location Mode on
    Start GPS Tether client

Tasker also needs to be on the phone to do the following:

    Tablet turns on
    Enable WiFi hotspot
    Start GPS Tether Server

    Tablet turns off
    Stop GPS Tether Server
    Disable WiFi hotspot
    Enable WiFi

In order to allow some of these apps to do their job properly, it needs to be given a couple of extra permissions - some of which can't be done without hooking up the tablet to a computer.

First, go to Settings -> Device Options, then tap multiple times on 'Serial Number' until you get the message 'You are now a developer' and a new 'Developer Options' menu entry appears. In here, there's two options that need enabling - 'Enable ADB' and 'Allow Mock Locations', and I've also enabled 'Stay Awake' for good measure (although we'll configure something else which will cater for this later)!

Now you need to install drivers onto your PC *before* connecting the tablet, as well as the necessary tools to do so. Go grab the Kindle Fire ADB drivers from (https://developer.amazon.com/public/...et-for-testing) and Minimal ADB and Fastboot from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=2317790) and install them.

Connect the tablet to your computer, and you should get a prompt on the tablet to allow USB debugging.

You'll then want to run "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" from your Start Menu, which will give you a command prompt window.

Then, follow the instructions at (https://joaoapps.com/AutoApps/Help/I...gsettings.html) to send the adb command to grant WRITE_SYSTEM_SETTINGS

(I'll copy the instructions here in case that page ever moves, but please check there for any updates!)

    • Enable Developer Mode: Go to Android Settings -> About Phone and look for the Build Number option. Touch it multiple times until developer mode is enabled.
    • Enable USB Debugging: Go to Android Settings -> and look for the Developer Options option. In there, enable the USB debugging option.
    • Install ADB on your PC: Check here for a quick way to do it.
    • Connect device to PC: Connect your device to a PC and look on your phone. A prompt should show up asking you to allow your phone to be debugged by your PC. Accept this.
    • Grant permission: Open a command line on your PC and write
adb shell pm grant com.joaomgcd.autotools android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

The Tasker tasks can now be set up, and they should work!

Tasker isn't the easiest application to use if you're not used to it, but there's plenty of guides out there!

I picked up a puncture on one of the rear wheels, which needed a new tyre, boo

Whilst I had the wheel off, I noticed a tiny hole in the back end of the sill. Tapped it with a small screwdriver, and it got a little bigger.

    2017-08-17 19.03.19.jpg

Looked at the other side, and there was similar tiny hole. I decided to not poke this one yet

I booked in a weekend at my dad's to get this sorted - he having a welder, and me not!

Remember that small hole from 3 sentences ago...

    i-member.jpg

Well, this is what both sides were like after the rotten metal was taken away.

    2017-10-21 11.21.03.jpg

It was barely visible under the underseal other than the small bit...

The rot didn't stop there, however, it extended underneath the sills quite a bit:

    2017-10-21 11.21.25.jpg 2017-10-21 11.44.39.jpg

Good job I booked in that full weekend with my dad now!

After a few hours of fabrication and welding, it was looking a lot better, and a lot stronger.

    2017-10-22 11.52.12.jpg 2017-10-22 11.53.07.jpg 2017-10-22 11.52.01.jpg

And a quick spray of underseal later:

    2017-10-22 11.53.20.jpg

The underneath is still not brilliant - the underseal is quite likely hiding a few more nasties like this. I am planning on getting the car up in the air and going over the whole underneath - probably a square foot or two at a time, stripping back, cleaning up, and replacing any rotten bits.

The Super replica kit I picked up was originally for a saloon - so the rear canards weren't as easy to fit. The shape of the rear bumper is different between saloon and estate, but that wouldn't stop me!

So, out came the grinder, sandpaper, and some scaffolding to hold it all in place whilst the adhesive dried...

    2017-07-02 14.08.20.jpg 2017-07-02 14.08.28.jpg 2017-07-02 14.08.46.jpg 2017-07-02 14.08.53.jpg 2017-07-02 14.09.28.jpg 2017-07-02 14.11.25.jpg

A few hours later, I took the scaffolding and straps off and stood back and admired

    2017-07-02 19.57.15.jpg 2017-07-02 19.57.29.jpg 2017-07-02 19.57.04.jpg

(Yeah, I know, I probably should have cleaned it first!)

When I was looking to buy a VR-4, there were a few about (more of a choice than nowadays!) - but this one drew my attention for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it had exhaust and de-cat, secondly and most importantly - were the wheels and arch extensions. I just absolutely loved the way that it made the car look.

However - the way they were fitted wasn't great, as you'll see when they're removed:

    2017-10-22 14.47.44.jpg 2017-10-22 14.48.02.jpg

Yep - the arch has just been cut away very sloppily, and the extensions stuck on! This has left a great gap between the two skins, reducing strength, and leaving a gap where water can very easily enter - and is probably one of the reasons my arches are so rusty! Well, as well as the general design of them which means they rust, too!

I will do it properly soon, but for now, I've stuck the two panels together with some sealant, which will add a little extra strength back, as well as hopefully prevent too much more water entering.

    2017-10-22 14.48.10.jpg

So with the extensions off, you can see how far the wheels stick out - nice, isn't it?

    2017-10-22 14.47.12.jpg 2017-10-22 14.48.39.jpg 2017-10-22 14.48.31.jpg 2017-10-22 14.47.32.jpg 2017-10-22 14.47.22.jpg 2017-10-22 14.47.07.jpg 2017-10-22 14.49.08.jpg 2017-10-22 14.49.20.jpg

In order to fulfil the purpose of getting it through an MOT pending a proper fix, I added some different types of arches, which add to the styling I'm heading towards, as well as covering the rusty bits a bit more!

    2017-10-22 17.04.50.jpg 2017-10-22 17.02.58.jpg 2017-10-22 17.05.02.jpg
    2017-10-22 16.59.43.jpg 2017-10-22 17.01.32.jpg 2017-10-22 17.01.05.jpg

Sometime later I'll fix the arches properly

Love the look with new arch extensions, but now you will need wider wheels to fill them properly :-)

Back near the beginning of 2017 I purchased some bits to make myself Bonnet hydraulic/gas lifters - DIY using the details in that thread.

Well, I finally got round to making & fitting them!

    2017-12-16 14.24.06.jpg 2017-12-16 14.24.43.jpg

It does now mean it's more difficult to shut the bonnet, but I can open it one-handed, and don't need to mess around with the bonnet stay, which is nice, and it has no other practical or performance purposes, but I'd wanted to do it for a while, and it's done now!

Odd question, But above your interior mirror. Is that one of the cheap reversing sensor kits? and if so, How do you rate them? The basic ones are down to a tenner on eBay and I can't really think of a reason not to get one unless they are that rubbish.
