    Welcome Jake

    Enjoy your VR4 !!!

I upgraded from V6 Estate to Legnum VR4 so I know the feeling. It's Love Hate for me now after five years of stewardship but I still love every mile even better than the last.

    Good choice.
Vr4 is a great beast to have and it is so practical as well.
I think VW have just realised this, as they brought out a golf R estate.

Ah you bought this one did you, this has been on eBay for ages, I guess because it was in the process of being imported, get that thing under Sealed, unless they've done it for you? Also be worth putting more sealer around the inner wheel arches up near the strut towers, there is a complete lack there of it on these cars.

Yes take the suspension strut and top wishbone. Clean the entire wheel arch so it is spotless. Ensure it is completely dry. Then use sealant to plug every hole in the arch and strut tower and along all the seams, then under seal the entire area very very well.
I really wish I had done this it would have saved so much work.
I have been fixing rust recently and once you see the rust break through the top skin of metal it is to late to just sand the spot and cover it with paint. It will be a massive job to fix the rust. It will have trashed the inner structure of the turret.
    You have been warned.

The timing of my purchase was deliberate last of the salt is gone, got the summer to get this done. i had the car "under sealed" before it left, haven't had it on ramps to check that yet, but it will be getting a good going over and re-doing. Is ACF50 worth the investment - to pre-spray up into the tight bits before putting on the coating? any suggestions for best coating to use? I was tending towards a few layers of under body paint then wax or dinitrol.

Need to do gearbox flush + fill + filter, check wave spring, engine oil + filter too. had the ayc timing belt, tensioner and water pump done

not worth opening the auto box to look at the wave spring unless there is something wrong with the auto box.

as for water yous to do the undersealing with, i can't recommend anything as all the stuff i have used in the past over the years. my fall back underseal is tetra seal which is the basic black gunk underseal.
i have used blit hamber, and other stuff but no of it has worked for me.

Raptor under seal is some of the best stuff I have used in my workshop.
