Very misleading video. It points out actual difference betweeen Evo 4-6 (Legnum) diff vs. Evo 7-9. It's due to rear subframe difference.
Now to the point, there are both, AYC and S-AYC diffs as pictured on right side on the video and there is no physical difference between them. You can only tell difference by serial number of after inspection of internal gearset.
AYC diff been factory fitted to all Evo 7, all Evo 8 (UK/EU 260 model) and some of Evo 8 GSR (JDM).
S-AYC been fitted to all Evo 8 MR, Evo 8 FQ and some of Evo 8 GSR, also all Evo 9 had one.
Simples...
Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

@Louis Yes, it shows, but difference Evo 4-6 (and Galant/Legnum VR4) vs. Evo 7-9.
As said, Evo 7-9 have different rear subframe, hence difference.
Evo 7-9 diffs had both AYC and S-AYC gearset fitted, depends on model.
I'm afraid that evo 8 260 (UK and EU model) had AYC diff. Saying that, "260' model had very strong 5-speed gearbox, later fitted to Evo 9 MR. Very desired in Evo world.

i think he has missed off that the propshaft flange is different and i can't remember if this needs to swapped over or not.

Yes, the propshaft flange is a different length so needs swapping over.

and if you undo that nut holding the flange on you have to be careful to reapply the same preload on the pinion bearing when you do it up. not sure what the preload should be but it is not that difficult to setup and test.
Are you sure Dave? It's been a long time since I changed one but I remember it being on the end of a splined shaft and not having any effect on the bearings at all.
I don't know this, but i am assuming there is no nut on the diff side of the prop shaft flange, normally there is only a oil seal behind the flange and the shaft goes into the diff and the pinion gear is on the end of that shaft. but there is a taper roller bearing on the shaft and it is the pre load you have to set on this bearing.
i suppose if it has a straight cut encapsulated bearing then i don't think pre load is set on this type of bearing, and the flange nut can just be torqued up to the correct value.
i have just realised i don't honestly know what type of bearing system the diff has got, i don't really know much about the rear diffs and the actual internal differences between the different technologies, AYC, SAYC, LSD and OPEN. i know what an open diff looks like inside, but not the rest.
