    Cabin Air filter

    Just a quick question.

Does a Legnum FaceLift Type S have a cabin airfilter. I'll be darned if I can find it. Have removed the glove box and steel bar and there seems to be a blanking plate where I expected the filter to slide out after undoing 3 screws?

I've never seen one fitted to a VR4.

According to ASA, they are fitted to European models, part number is MR315875. The A/C condenser unit as a whole has a different part number, too, between Europen/Japan models, so maybe it's not able to be just slid in?

But - if you can get the blanking plate off and slide one in, then that may be another service item we could add to our cars

As Garry said. I suspect it can't be easily done to the VR4, but I would also suspect that a european part would be interchangeable to give you the cabin filter. It's just a bit of a pain to change that assembly.

    Ah Garry

Thanks for confirming the VR4 was never fitted with one.

Well I was aware of the position and what it looked like from the Ol' Galant V6 I had. So I went off and bought one the other day off Ebay - £17. The part number was XR315875 on the box. So that kinda ties in with with your MR number nicely.

Yes Nick I think I will use a bit of Plywood as a ruler/straight edge and Dremel cut that blanking cover off. That way if it all goes pear shaped I can glue and seal it back on and no one will hopefully know I was ever there!

will post up how I got on.

My car has the elusive factory fit ionizer fitted. when researching that i came upon a thread (ozvr4?) that covered this and fitting of a v6 spec air filter. Its cut hole, drop in. the ionizer is basically the same shape as the air filter (a little larger, actually!) and the blanking plate covers the same old hole on all cars.

Just noticed this thread as I was cosidering changing the cabin filter.
Most cars these days recomend changing a cabin filter every year or so and after checking the filter on my wifes new second hand honda I was surprised to find it covered in dirt and bugs after the previous owner replacing it last year. As our cars do not have a filter does this mean the unit could get blocked with dirt and bugs, especially after 23 years?

From the ones I have taken apart they get pretty grubby but would be a pain to clean out

I retro fitted one of these a while back, just had to cut out the part of the panel and used self tap screws

Thanks for the help and advice. I just a bit odd that they made a space for a filter but didnt open it up. I am guessing if it is blocked it could damage the A/c. Is there a simple slot in filter?

At least some European spec cars had a cabin filter. So I assume that is what Louis used?

UK spec filter fits fine in mine, not sure why they didn't come with one from the factory.

    Thanks again,
just realised the OZ thread supplied by Jake showed an alternative pollen filter to replace the ionizer. Might give it a go when I get hold of the filter. Cheers.
