Great news. I received the paperwork and got much more than I was expecting. Original service nook, unopened manual and service history spanning 16 years that seems to back up the mileage. Now I have the registration certificate I can obtain temporary plates to be able to drive the car to Mitsubishi to get it checked out and serviced.
I believe the timing. Let has been done at least once previously but will check with the garage to see if it needs it again. I can't read Japanese yet, so am a bit blind. Here are the docs

There are some nice cars on goonet. I used to look on there when I was looking for a car.
The only time I messaged someone about a car the price seemed to go up!

Yeah, it's a collection of traders, some are great and genuine, some are a bunch of wide boys. However most of their customers are Russian and african, and I am guessing they spend half their time trying to avoid scammers ar dealing with time wasters.

Not trying to promote negative stereotypes but doing business in those countries can be a challenge to ones patience

Wow, your Legnum looks like its in amazing condition! Quite a rare thing these days If you keep it, keep up with the maintenance and you will be able to enjoy it for years to come Considering the condition I would keep it relatively stock, but a few simple bolt on parts that are easily reversible wont hurt haha. Quality parts are getting hard to come by these days though!
If youre still looking for tuners you could try look up YR Advance who are in Tokyo, they used to tune Legnums a while ago but not sure about more recently. Alternatively, I guess you could try looking for GTO tuners such as Pit Road M ...

Thanks Oblivion. I will definitely check both those guys out.
So update. Finally got the car over two the Mitsubishi dealership to get an estimate on all the work that will need doing. They have said the gearbox/power steering assembly needs lots of work, oil leaking etc, and that and all their servicing will be about 1500 pounds. I have decided to do it because of all the other main garage history. It needs new tyres so I have gone for Falken Eurowinters HS449, these rare all season tyres, so should be great dealing with a tokyobwinter and also enable me to drive to the mountains if we fancy it. These tyres are expensive here, dealer wanted to charger 700 quid, but I have ordered them from amazon for 400.

I like got temporary license plates to drive the car to the garage, and already on that short journey I loved the car. The Nardi steering wheel feels awesome, the throttle response instant, and the ride silky smooth. I am a big fan of light Japanese steering, and it just felt like a really comfortable cruiser. Especially the seats which felt very supportive.
It's going to take a week to get all the parts and fit them, but I guess I should thank my lucky stars that we can get them at all here.
So slightly disappointed that there was so much to do, but at least I know that everything will be perfect when I get it back.

Will be back in a week hopefully with good news. Anyone else run 4 season tyres?

Glad to see you are happy to spend a bit to keep it nice. These cars have little value which means peole tend to run them into the ground.Gearbox may be the torque converter oil seal. It's pennies to buy but the gearbox has to come out to fit it which bumps up the cost.

'97 Manual Legnum in silver with some subtle mods

My first VR4 - '97 Legnum Dark Green & mean ...it was love at first sight - now sold

It's only done 13,000 miles form new, with a full dealer service history!, doesn't sound like it's been run into the ground!

I wasn't suggesting it had been run into the ground. My point was that few people are prepared to spend on a VR4 especially a 3 digit number.
