    ABS light

    Hi all,

Hoping someone may be able to shed some light please !!

I have been driving the car recently and about 4/5 time the ABS light comes on the dash board. it seems to be quite random at the moment. normally when driving at motorway speeds (eg below 80 mph). i recently drove from Cardiff to Weston Super Mare and during the drive after about 40 miles the ABS light came on I then drove from Cardiff to Lampeter 80 miles and it didn't come on. Once I turn the car off and it resets. I recently drove over 200 miles on single carriage A Roads and it didn't come on.

Car also has occasions where it feels that the ABS is kicking in even under gentle braking at under 10 mph such as parking in a super market last week.

There is a bit of brake judder but this has been there for months. Wondered if the ABS light is a signal for anything specific in the Manual please??

Also could anyone confirm where the diagnostics port is on the face lift Legnum please??

Has anyone had anything similar please or have any suggestions/thoughts ??

    Many thanks in advance

    Geraint

First step is to pull the fault codes using the "flashy dash" procedure.

My guess though would be a broken ABS ring on one of the wheels, which will likely show up as a wheel sensor fault.

Get the car up in the air and spin each wheel by hand one at a time, whilst looking closely at the toothed ring on the back side of the hub. I bet you'll find one has a tiny little crack, putting two teeth ever so slightly further apart than the rest.

It could be some rusty crud on the teeth of the ring too or a dodgy sensor. I'd go with Garry on the guess though. But yeah, flashy dash should tell you which corner to look at.

    Hi Both,

Much appreciated. When I click the link - https://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showth...agnostic-Codes - for the Flashy Diagnostics info it says I don't have privileges.

can someone send the text whilst I sort out membership please.

    Many thanks

Cheers gents. I'll try this tomorrow after I get the tyre fixed after getting a cavity wall tie jammed in it this evening !!

Did I read the ABS rings are difficult to get hold of ??

    Cheers, Geraint

    Hi,

So if been to the garage to get the puncture sorted and they've had it up on the ramps. Its the rear drivers side ABS is missing a ring amd possibly cracked.

Anyone done this job ?? Is it an easy fix. Garage is concerned ABS ring may be moulded onto shaft?!

Any info on parts and beat way to undrrtake the job would be much appreciated.

    Cheers in advance

The ring is a separate part but is very tightly fitted. It'll come off easy if it is cracked. Fitting a new one requires some delicate handling or it will also crack. Give the surface of the driveshaft a good clean with some abrasive paper and heat the ring to get it to expand a little.

I recall someone on here has fitted new ABS rings and I think they are aftermarket only. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where to get them.

Getting the driveshaft out of the hub can be the most awkward bit. Then exactly as Tim says, getting the old one off is not so difficult, new one is a very tight fit so make sure the shaft is clean and the ring goes on square. There is a thread somewhere about aftermarket abs rings.
