    Spark Plug Gaskets

    Just bought another set of BKR7EIX spark plugs but the gaskets on them are thicker than the ones i removed and are tapered. The ones on the old plugs are flat.

    The old plugs I used to tighten to 30nm but these ones with the thick tapered gasket I can only tighten up to around 15nm, anything above that they just slowly turn. I dont want cause any damage to the threads.

    Has anybody fitted plugs with these sort of gaskets before or should I get them exchanged for ones with flat gaskets. The face where the spark plug seats on the head isnt tapered on our engines.

    They were advertised for an FTO so thought they would have also fitted the VR4 engine.

    They are crushable aren't they? Do they not flatten as you tighten them? The rules on NGK plug boxes usually say hand tighten and then turn another two thirds of a turn with a bar, so I have no idea what the torque is.

    Agree with Nick, they are crush washers.

    Cheers fellas, I see what you mean.. so this will crush flat like the old gaskets. I'll have a look and see what the info says. On the NGK site is the tightening torques for both flat and taper gaskets.. I just assumed I had the taper sort looking at the shape of them
