    Turbo Intake Pipe Size

I'm currently fettling my intake pipework and fitting a couple of new air filters as the old ones were a bit small.

The new filters im getting have the option of a 60mm outlet or 70mm outlet. I currently have some 70mm aluminum pipework pieces I can use but wondered if this would be overkill given the turbo inlet is only 45mm. Would it have an effect on things using too large pipework and reducing down a lot to connect to the turbo inlet? Should I opt for the 60mm version instead and use 60mm pipe to the turbo?

The length of pipework from the turbo inlet to the air filters is short, around 25cm.

    I'm currently running 15psi boost.

    Cheers

Personally I would not have thought either would make any diffetence.
Both pipes are substantially larger than the turbo inlet so there should not be any flow restriction.
But bigger will flow more air should the need arise.

I don't know for sure but I agree with Dave. Also if the pipework is short then there isn't even any kind of significant reservoir - as soon as the tubs spool the filter is the restriction.

Thanks fellas. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some kind of science which says I shouldn't use the bigger piping.

The main reason is to fit the bigger filters.

I'm just re-doing the intake & filters on my Anglia - I'm using the original rubber S's off the turbos to go through the inner wings, then I'm fitting twin cone filters to this - I figure the more filterable area the better, and not worrying too much about the rest of the pipework sizing as it'll pretty much sort itself out! Adding more filterable area will reduce the effort needed to pull through the same volume of air (I hope).

Anything will be an improvement over this...
