Thumbs up Greetings from Carmarthen, Wales

    Hi folks.

    My name's Russell.
I'm a 30 year old taxi driver in Carmarthen. (no i'm not too busy, yes it is a long shift ha ha!)

I dont presently own a vr4 type car, but am in early days of negotiating a purchase of a Legnum, Dark purple body with a tan coloured leather interior. The car itself has been laid up for some time so it'll be a bit of work before i can start racking up some miles in her.

Joining this club and forum signifies the beginning of my journey.

I look forward to chatting with you all and learning a great deal along the way

    Thanks!

I trust this will be your toy and not your new taxi, as your customers will be coming from far and wide just for the experience lol

    Oh yes, my toy!
Unfortunately any new taxi where I live has to be under 5 years old at first taxi registration. Not only that, the prices I'd have to charge would be horrific.

The firm I work for charges £225 each way for Heathrow. I'd probably have to double that to make it pay ha ha ha.
Although I'd probably get them there in 2/3 of the time

This is where the car I'm after resides at the moment.

Going to need the charging system looked at. It's got a slight misfire. Body work needs some TLC. And then hopefully just servicing after that (brakes and tyres included)

This will be the most powerful production car I'll have ever driven. Closest so far in my history was an E36 BMW 328i (Just shy of 200hp) so this will be a new experience that if all goes well I'm definitely looking forward to!

    I hope so.
No word back from the current owner though with regards to purchasing the car. Be a real shame if he says no. But then that just means I'd be in the market for another one instead

No reply what so ever at the moment. Looks like it won't happen if I'm honest.
So it may well be time to smash the overtime in work and keep browsing the ads for sale here.
If I had the instant monies I quite fancy the lpg converted one in Northampton

    Well, I got a reply. £2,000
No mot, alternator is questionable, got a misfire, starting to go mouldy inside from being sat for so long.

I think the asking price is a bit steep personally.

    People's thoughts?

If the bodywork is in good condition (front strut tops, rear arches, insides of the doors), and mechanically it's not too bad, then the ancillary stuff might be simple to fix. However, for £50 to get it through an MOT, it'd then be worth the money...

I'd want an MOT on it for that kind of price, and any seller who thinks the car is capable of getting through an MOT would be silly to not put it through one, otherwise it's worth scrap value IMO.

My idea at the moment is to buy an fto alternator (as I understand these will fit provided it's 4 pin plug - correct?)
Then sling it in for MOT.

Thing is id like to get some shakedown milage under it's belt then that will highlight any other issues that may need work.

Depending on if it passes or not will depend on what money I offer. If the fail list is as long as my arm then I might have to let it go

Awesome. Far cheaper than a proper legnum one. Although would the fto alternator be under more strain or would you (and others - feel free to chuck in your two pence) say they're up to the job for long term use?
