Water Methanol Injection / Good or bad idea

With me coming close to the end my engine rebuild, im thinking about the extra/ potential power increases i can get but also looking at fitting/ installing some safe guards.
I do indend to take it for a couple of track days, nothing too serious though 'No Time Attacks' or anything to prove.
Wideband / controller i think is a must but can anyone advise or have fitted Water Methanal Injection to their VR4's.
Really interrested in this idea for its safe gains.

    Hi Dave,
I have been looking at this for a while but need to get my car 100% for a bit then I’ll get it done by someone or most likely do most of it myself and get someone to set it up. If you decide on something please let us know, I am looking at the AEM unit but hopefully will get someone to get it direct from America for me.

We could take the journey together, as this engine rebuild of mine is fresh so i also need to put some miles on her and make sure everything is 100% also.
I've been looking at water mist kits but possibly building a component kit but still deep in research on this quest.
Trying to pull information from all sources hence the post.
Im really trying to find out all the true benefits of installing this on the 6A13TT so if anyone has done it.... we need to chatting to them.

As I said in your other thread, I have thought about doing so in my Anglia, purely because of the charge temperatures with my tiny chargecooler.

With a decent sized intercooler, that will do a great job of keeping charge temps down, even at higher boost & flow than standard. I think you'd be struggling to be seeing such high charge temps on a VR4.

I've got an original AquaMist S1 kit, which is very clandestine by today's standards, but not fitted yet. With my new Link ECU, I've got 3 temperature sensors pre-turbo, post-turbo/pre-chargecooler, and post-chargecooler, so I have the ability to log actual hard data on charge temperatures. I can then potentially use the ECU in place of the standard basic pressure switch that comes with my kit, and do water injection based upon pressures, RPM, and charge temp etc, rather than just on-off based on pressure

I absorbed a lot of info by looking at the Aquamist forum, but I've still a lot to learn!

The main thing will be having your ECU configured in a way that if there's no water available for injection, it drops back to a safe configuration without - so this means essentially tuning twice - one safe level without water injection, and then a second level with injection - so factor in costs of tuning in addition to costs of the actual kit itself.

I disagree very slightly with Garry. I think our little tubs at high boost lead to high intake temps even with a big intercooler. I think water injection is a good step on stock tubs, maybe less so if you go down a bigger turbo route.

One thing I would consider for track days is an engine oil cooler. In my experience raised boost and 15 minutes on track leads to very high coolant temperature and from talking to others in the same boat we came to the conclusion that the coolant can't cope with the extended period of high oil temps.

I have been using aquamist set up for a few years.
I don't use it as an upgrade if you know what I mean, I use it to support other mods.
I run 60/40 water/meth. it kicks in at 1 bar.
Water helps cool intake charge and meth raises octane level to avoid knock under high boost.
I also have intercooler spray set up to kick in at 1 bar also (only use it in the summer).
I did it originally for peace of mind when running high boost.
Some people say it just kills power, (heat = power), but I would disagree, and adding the meth gives the higher octane when needed.
Many differing views on this in various forums, read as much as you can and look for evidence, as there are many hypothetical warriors out there lol!

Not had it on a dyno, but it definitely doesn’t knock (pre det) at the same boost level.
