Salvo, I've been thinking more about this.
It was leaking boost from there. The ECU knows how much air has been taken into the system from the MAF, but the reading from the O2 sensor will read too rich. It would then start pulling fuel until it's stuttering and then throws the EML.

Any luck on a new turbo yet?

Hi Lee, no not luck with turbo yet. I popped down to snow's yesterday and had a chat with Mark. He said before he'll do anything else he whould have to put new coil packs leads and plugs, which sounds a bit rediculas as mine are virtually new apart from two of the packs and I'm not prepared to spend 800+ to find out that my components where good to begin with. although there could be a faulty coil so what i plan to do is to carry out a flashy dash, take note of the code then swap the 2 older packs one by one with the new one each time i flashy dash if i get a code on a different cylinder then I know it's another pack that needs replacing, in which case i'll get two as the third wouldn't be far behind.
Does any of that makes sense?

An air leaj after the mf will mean that the afr will be wrong and likely lean on idle which can cause a lumpy idle. The mix will be too rich on throttle which can cause a misfire.
I'm not guaranteeing your issue is that but definitely get that issue solved.

I can't believe it's been this long and still unresolved.
Iv'e now had the front turbo replaced and I'm still getting fluctuating readings on the wideband. i took the car to an evo expert near me who confirmed that apart from having some oil leaks it is also burning oil. It ran on idle without missing a beat and performed ok on a short run. Despite this, in his own words he advised not to "spend any money on it" !!!
The car has practically been off the road for coming close to a year and I'm completely lost as to what to do next. Heart says one thing, mind and other half says different.
Am I alright in thinking that a leaking cylinder will both give a running rich reading and a feel of a misfire?
I am not in a position to spend thousands if that's what it takes to get it running right which would be a great shame as otherwise the car is very clean and sound.
I'm asking at what my options are and if it is worth pursuing or sell it as it is.

Anyone had dealings with Nippon spares in derby?
I'm thinking of buying an engine with 46k on and have them fit it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

I bought an engine from them, went cash in hand to knock the VAT off, told them days in advance I was coming and when I arrived they didn’t have the engine ready, I had to wait 2 hours for the engine to be removed. The engine was sold as low mileage and great condition, turbo seal had gone and the pistons coated in thick gunky oil. They Wouldn’t cover It as I had no official receipt, so I suggest pay full price and go through eBay, atleast you’ll be covered if there are any issues.

It's been a long wait but at last picking my car up on Thursday. Had a 60k kilometres engine fitted, new belts, hydraulic tensioner. Straight in for mot ,should sail through as no miles since last one but might stick some all weather klebers on.

You bet, at one point I was resigned to losing it, wasn't getting anywhere with it and fundamentally it had a few oil leaks and I was lucky to find a low mileage engine.
