    Speed limit defender fitting

I'm only asking this to get views and opinions on them and if anyone has fitted or has had one fitted.

I found speed defencers on the hks website. Personally I'm not overly worried about going stupid fast but having the option would be nice to go above 110mph/180kph. So has anyone had a speed defencer fitted or fitted one them selves, is it easy enough to do and overall reliability etc?

Any help on this would be great to know. Again I'm not overly worried about it for daily driving can only go 70mph anyways 😂😂. But for the time I'd go to the track/drag it would be good to actually get a bit more speed

The ecu can be flashed to remove it. How easy this is depends on the production date of your car.
Having said that you won't need it disabling for the 1/4 mile but you will hit it on track allbeit only at the end of a long straight.

Do it for free, with the speed wire cut!

    https://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showth...l=1#post193319

Not sure if you can see it if you are not a paid member, but basically, there is a white/green wire that goes to the ECU that if you cut, you say goodbye restrictor! Doesn't affect anything else. Mine's been that way for over a decade!

Depending on where in the country you are, there's a couple of people around who could flash your ECU to remove the speed limiter - if you're anywhere near Nottinghamshire I can do it for you

That could be a good shout. Didn't think it would be that easy hahaha but if it doesn't affect anything else then that is awesome. And probably the way I'll go

I’ve had FTOs for years and using a kmh to mph conversion chip (spliced into the speed sensor loom on top of the gearbox) converts your speedo AND delimits. Well the limit is still there but it’s at 180mph! Is the VR4 different?

    It's exactly the same Drew.

Some converters sit behind the dashboard though and those don't change the signal the ecu sees.

If you've got an auto, don't fit the converter to top of the gearbox - the gearbox ECU uses this signal for various things, and you might mess up the smoothness of the gearbox

If you want the speed limit removing, and no other tweaks, and have a pre-facelift car (with a metal-cased ECU - it's located under the very centre of the dash, remove the little panel next to your left foot just above the foot-rest, the top ECU in the stack) - I have spare ones here, so I could remove the speed limiter from one, and send it to you, you swap it with yours, and send yours back to me

Or, if you've got a facelift with a plastic cased ECU, if you can go without the car for a couple of days, you could send it to me and I'll do the same, but with your own ECU (unfortunately I don't have a spare plastic cased ECU)

Garry, I have run a couple of VR4s with that kind of converter and had no issues that correlated. I have sheared an input shaft and stripped a planetary set, but I can't attribute either to the speed conversion.
