Front fog light help please :)

    Hi,
Both my front fog lights stopped working yesterday.
I have checked fuses in the engine bay and in the drivers side under dash (behind flip down pocket), and all fuses are good.
The warning light (fog lights symbol) does not come on when I flip the switch.
I checked the switch and I am getting a live at the switch!.

    Any suggestions??

    All other lights working fine.

    anyone had similar issues?

I doubt both lamps would have blown at the same time and not taken out a fuse, but I suppose it's possible?.

Just wondering given the info above could the switch have stopped working?

Pretty sure the front fogs do not have a tell on the dash. Nowhere near my VR-4 right now to check though.

Mine is pre face lift and has a green light for front fog lights in the centre on the left beside the “Full beam“ warning light.
I also noticed last night my AC illumination is not lighting up either, so there may be a fuse somewhere re these, but I don’t think they should be on the same fuse!

I will definitely have to check when I get home now!!

Yes, probably a random fuse that can effect them.

I'm struggling to find a fuse that obviously links the fogs and the climate control.

My front fogs illuminate on the dash, as you said. However I have messed around with my fogs to have the rear fog illuminate on the dash too using a UK spec fog switch.

97 wiring (same as 98 as far as i can tell)

    Fogs:

Tail lamp relay - Fuse 8 10A - Front Fog Relay (B-16X) coil - switch. Switch might also depend on headlight relay - Fuse 6 (15A) and fuse 4 (10A)
Fogs are driven by Fuse 2 (20A) - relay - both fogs and telltale.

    Interior lighting

Tail lamp relay - Fuse 8 (again) 10A feeding basically all dash lighting and the clock, clock also fed thru fuse 4 (again) providing possible backfeed?
AC illumination definitely fed from fuse 8 also. pin 30 on C-07 should be hot with headlights on.

All the obvious fuses seemed fine, and I swapped the relays about in the fuse box in the engine bay.
But still not working!, I will go through all fuses when I get a LP

Doesn't sound like a fuse to me
Likely to be a bad earth or a broken wire/loose connection

I Checked with my Electronics Enhanced Brother (2 BSc degrees and counting One in Electronic Engineering) and he agrees
Stop looking for a fuse and start looking for a wire/connection fault

Ill dig out the wire colours this evening for you, the info given should let you trace things fairly well anyway (its why i gave all the stages) - eg, if fuse 8 is live but the fog relay coil isn't, you know the fault is between them. I provided both circuits so you can see what is common to them both. I don't have good information about ground locations, sadly.

Ok. this is all based on EUDM wiring diagrams for RHD '97 car - so is indicative, not guaranteed correct

C14 is shared this is left in passenger foot-well, low down against the wing and below the wing connector block pass-through. this is the easiest thing to check! pin 8 should be live with fogs OFF and dead with fogs ON. Pin 22 should be live with sidelights on.
the area with Junction 2 at connector C62, earth 9, and junction 4 at connector C64, is shared this appears to be on the firewall, cabin side, behind the instruments somewhere (high up), not much else junction wise that wouldn't give other issues.

    Fog Signal path
white-violet wire from fuse 8 to pin 3 of fog relay (coil). purple wire from pin 1 to C14 pin 8, then onwards purple to the switch. ground black to Junction 4 (C64) then to earth point 9 (both high under dash, right most one above the gauges somewhere near C62.)

    Fog Power Path
front fog relay in on pin 4, out pin 5. appears to be white green and light green - red. earths at points 4 (left) 1 (right) 9 (combo meter indicator) grounds all blue.

    AC Lighting
green-white wires from fuse 8 to C14 pin22, to JC2 12 which exits on 22 to pin30 on C07. (this is the AC, here be bulbs)
black-yellow wires from Pin 29 on C07 to JC2 28 which exits JC2 pin 23to C25 pin 15(18?) to loom splice 31 (linked to rheostat) other links from 31 are ok, since you havent reported loss of cluster lighting / dash lighting.
