Hi Ian, Silly question but when the battery was fitted, were the terminals connected in the right polarity? Positive to positive, negative to negative? I accidentally did it myself when not concentrating, noticed straight away and corrected the mistake, but several fuses blew causing my Galant to do odd things including what you described with the interior lights. No other ideas from me -Alex

Ah that's annoying, easy to do when you think you're getting an identical battery! One of the previous owners of my car replaced the earth with a red wire, so connected what I thought was the positive to + on the bat. Noticed when I saw the big red wire bolted into the chassis!! Was too late by then.
Is the alarm directly wired to the battery? and not through one of the fuse boxes? it may have its own in built fuse which could have blown.. or no fuse at all causing it to play up from being connected wrong? I had an electrical component blow that wasn't fused when I connected my battery wrong, had to take it apart and do a bit of soldering where it had blown. Good luck!!
