    Momo steering wheel customisations

I was kindly offered a momo steering wheel for my VR4 as I have the standard steering wheel in my vr4. Once I received it I wasn’t keen on the finish in the ring surrounding the momo badge, so decided to make my own!

Sorry to anyone who has already seen this on Facebook, but I deleted my profile and decided to repost some things on here!

I 3d printed this ring which fits snugly on the steering wheel, my first design is finished with carbon fibre gloss wrap and real metal bolts as you’ll see below. Someone mentioned an oversight by my part, that real metal bolts are probably not a sensible idea on the airbag part of the wheel! So I made another version with the bolts removed. I’ll post a picture of the final version shortly with some other mods!

So my vr4 has a few fun gadgets which are accessible via buttons built into the dash by my right knee, I have individual buttons for the ecu to overfuel to cause a good burbling sound through the exhaust! A button to engage launch mode, and another button which ignites the spark plugs built into the rear of the exhaust
Only issue is, I can not easily access these buttons while driving because of their position, so I decided to make a casing to house buttons up on the steering wheel.
Here’s the design and finished product attached (including the momo badge surround minus bolts!):

—-just to note, the button housing does not connect or interfere with the airbag, it just attaches to the black casing!——

Nice ideas, and certainly a good idea to remove the metal bolts!

How do you link the buttons to the car? If I understand correctly the clock spring doesn't have enough connections to add many buttons.

Yes, not sure if projectile metal bolts would be great in the event of a crash! I actually haven’t had a look at the clock spring yet, I may just bypass a wiring loom to the side of the clock spring with plenty of slack for when the wheel is turned, maybe not good in long run with wires eventually fraying... might instead tap into the 12v supply from the clock spring to power a wireless relay module, so the buttons would work as a transmitter and a receiving relay elsewhere to switch on and off the gadgets. I’ll work out something!

Wired up an led to a wireless relay, and a transmitter to one of the steering wheel buttons. The gif photo below shows the blue led switching on when I press the button. Wireless buttons done

Looks very nice indeed. Never seen a VR4 with a Momo wheel, mine have always had the Nardi wheel.

Cheers! Im Changing the button layout now, think it looks a bit too clumpy. By the way, the steering wheel is the same wheel fitted to the Evo 4 5 and 6 if you consider getting one!

Just missed one for £75 in excellent condition, I’ll get hold off one soon enough though.

Have a look on the Evo groups, I got mine through an Evo owners group on Facebook. I posted saying I was looking for that particular momo s/wheel and was flooded with replies!

The UK sport models had the momo wheel. Not many other flavours did.
