    ARP Head Studs

    Hi all

Looking to upgrade to ARP (Toyota 3s GTE) head studs. (two sets required).

Where is best place to buy from, good price etc.
What is the torque setting when using on the VR4 (do you go with the recommended toyota torque setting, or with the VR4 setting and add a bit???

16 need for 1 VR4 engine, toyota come in set of 10, so I will need to buy 2 sets (20), to get the 16 I need.

If a couple of others are interested in this upgrade I could buy 5 sets (= 50 studs) which gives enough for 3 sets of 16 for VR4 engines. (48)
    which brings the cost down

    info from this thread:

    https://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showth...ota+head+bolts

OR!, if anyone has 6 left over from a set I am interested to buy them

I’m interested to have a set for my vr4 + Also need a set for my 3sgte, so maybe would bring down the price if we ordered so many sets in one go? Not sure where to order though, I’m normally buying parts on eBay

** Forgot the price of these! So I’d just be interested in a set for my vr4 not for the mr2 as I’m selling that!

    Thanks Nick.
From Nick's thread there are 10 studs in a set for the toyota.
So, 5 sets of studs give enough for 3 VR4's.

Standard Price seems to be about £160 a set of 10, but I would get a better deal depending on how many sets.

At the moment, If Alex wants enough for VR4 (2 sets) and his 1 set for his 3sgte, and I need 2 sets for my FR4, then we are at 5 sets
with 8 spare studs (4 from each VR4).

So, Is there 1 more person interested??

Hi Louis, sorry I edited my first message since, I’m only interested in a set for the vr4, not the 3sgte.

I thought it was 12 in a set too. I saw in the link you provided that evo arp head studs fit too? How many are in one pack of the evo head studs? As they’re £125 a set, compared to the 3sgte £155 a set (both on tuning developments). So at the moment just two sets each with a remainder of four each, unless others buy in?

I think it is only the 1.8 GSR EVO 1,2,3 head studs that fit (or the toyota ones). I don't think the other EVO or EVO 4 onwards fit.
The EVO main crank studs fit the 6A13tt.

I am checking re this and re price,
any additional info welcome, cheers Louis

    Hi Alex,
Best I've got so far is £145 per set of 10. plus £10 postage to my address.
So, that would be £580 for 4 sets, plus £10 postage to me.

    £590 divided by 2 = £295,
I can post yours to you

UK supplier, They do next day delivery for the £10.

Are you interested in going ahead?, cheers Louis

    Hi Louis,

Thanks for finding a deal, I can’t afford them at the moment as I’ve got some expensive issues to address with my vr4 (to get it through its mot), so I’m currently unsure on the fate of my car at the moment!!

its currently at my mates garage having a bombardment of work, once I have the bill I may be in a better place to purchase then! But otherwise please go ahead without me or with someone else as I don’t want to hold back your build.

    Cheers- Alex

No worries Alex, not a problem.
I am going to go ahead and order mine next week (as I am away working from today). I'm doing some other work and will have the covers off and the bolts will be accessible.
If anyone else is interested put a note on here and I will check in next week before I place my order.

ARP head studs always seem to be very expensive for what they are, a threaded bit of metal stud.
I went down a different route when I rebuilt my engine and all good so far. I have done over 6k miles since the rebuild. So I am happy.
I am testing the alternative with 1.5 bar boost which is what lifted the heads the first time round on the standard factory stretch bolts.
So 10 k miles is what I am aiming for with regular abuse and I will call the option fit for purpose.
It does not matter what anyone else says when they find out what I have done. Lol

    Bye for Now!

you can use whatever studs or bolts that you can find. Their are other manufactures that make bolts and studs for automotive use. the only reason why people recommend ARP is because that is what people have actually used and they know they fit and have been tried and tested.
you could go down to the local hardware store and buy some bolts and use them. But they probably would not do the job. you have to have the right bolt for the application. you have to have the correct balance of of strength and flexibility due to the constant heating and cooling of the metal used for the bolt.
i can not recommend any fasteners that are not deigned for automotive use.
