    Hi everyone,

Just bought a stock '97/ '98 Galant VR4 sedan autobox from Japan, its being unloaded from the ship tomorrow and then should be ready for pickup on Friday

I know '97 / '98 is a bit vague but it depends how the Dutch DVLA decide to register it. Production date is '97 but they only look at First Registration date which could be '98.

Anyway, I probs haven't found it but is there a list of things to check?
I know the usual service, rear wheel arches, bushes etc as I'm a trained auto-mechanic but just wondering if these beasties have other known issues.

Plans for it are to keep it as stock as possible but I wouldnt mind the odd handling/performance upgrade,. any ideas?
for example, Suspension upgrade, breaks and a remap but are these worth doing?

A colleague pointed me towards a turbo upgrade where they dismantle the turbo and re-manufacture the impellers but no experience with this either.

    Kind Regards,
    Matt

Nothing specific to check. Mechanically these cars lasta good while if stock and looked after.

Rust is killing more than anything else in the UK.

Remapping is well worth it, personally I would! Evo 6 to 9 wheels are a nice handling upgrade in my opinion - the stock wheels and tyres have a little too much sidewall movement. 18 inch wheels start to feel a bit crashy.

There is a staged upgrade thread somewhere that is worth a read.

    Hi and welcome!

Nick's covered the basics Here's the Staged Upgrades thread he was talking about

If it's minty fresh off the boat from Japan and is rust-free, then the very first thing I'd do is get the underneath protected (if the weather rain/snow/salt etc is an issue over in NL), then start looking at the other bits.

Thanks for the replies, Rust prevention was indeed top priority and a set of new EU headlights
