Engine oil and poor quality fuel, what to do?

    Hi everyone,
I live in a very hot country, average 30+ degrees Celsius...so what type/ brand of engine oil would be the most suitable for my 2002 Legnum VR4?

Unfortunately we have very poor fuel quality, but I have no idea what grade of gasoline it is...but maybe worse than 95 in UK?
I understand the VR4s are programmed to take good high octane fuels( like the fuel in Japan)...so what can I do to solve this issue?

    Thank you.

You would need to remap the car. The ecu detects knock from low octane fuel and pulls timing so you lose a fair amount of power.
Which country do you live in?

Cool! You could be the first person from there on these forums!
The nearest guys to you that could be helpful are in Trinidad and Tobago but I don't know if that is an easy journey for.yoi or not.

    Thank you Nick Mann!!
Unfortunately we have very limited knowledge about these sophisticated cars here in Aruba...by the way, I used to own 3 VR4s back in UK, but this is my first LEGNUM VR4.
I would never trust the mechanics here in Aruba...THEY WILL MESS UP YOUR CAR BIG TIME!!..ha ha ha!😂😅🤦🏻*♂️
I do not think I will go to Trinidad and Tobago, hopefully somebody on this forum can help me.
Unfortunately on this part of the planet....it is very hard to trust anybody to work on your cars😩🤦🏻*♂️....so we just have to work on our own cars by ourselves!😂😅

    Regarding poor quality of fuel....
If I add more OCTANE BOOSTER to my car...does that make any differences?
Does poor quality fuel damage our engine?

    Regarding engine oil....
I saw on the forum some people recommended Amsoil?...is it good, and what are the differences they make on the VR4 engine?
Currently I am using VAVOLINE, is it ok?

an octane booster would probably help. The ecu will pull the timing if you use low octane fuel to protect the engine so shouldn't do permanent damage so long as its not poor quality.

a fully synthetic oil is needed and Amsoil 0w-30 comes highly recommended. If your oil is meets that spec it'll be OK.
