    PFL caliper choices

So I’m aware I can fit Evo 4 discs to my pfl, is this the same front and rear? I can afford the brembo set up for now but the brakes are spongy and don’t inspire much confidence. Are there any other models from Mitsubishi that the callipers are interchangeable with? I read somewhere that the GTO caliper can be bolted on? Just wondering if that’s at all possible and what if any advantage it gives?

There are two master cylinder sizes, see if you can find the markings. IIRC 18/17 is what you are hoping to see.

Yes, discs and pads are all evo 4 compatible items. Get some good pads and bleed some good fluid through and the brakes should be fine. They are far less assisted than modern cars, but with good pads, discs and fluid you should find the limit of your tyres grip.
For me the advantage of Brembos was track days. Stock sized calipers got a tad hot for me under those conditions!

Track days are not on the menu for me so the brembo upgrade would be an unnecessary upgrade on my wallet lol. I’ll go for the updated discs and pads with a good quality fluid, I assume a decent set of stainless lines would also make a difference?

Brake lines would improve the sponginess a bit!

I think the master cylinder is 17/16" (i.e. one and one sixteenth inches). Standard on autos anyway. I have a spare in the garage, so if I get in there at some point, I'll try to double-check it.

EDIT: might only be standard on PFL autos due to having the TCL/ASC gubbins

I think Nev is right with 17/16. I was tired and mildly inebriated when I wrote that reply!

As mentioned before, Brembo's or any other aftermarket big brake upgrade will usually only benefit at track days or similar with a better ability to disipate heat. The PFL Caliper is the same (im led to believe) as the Group N gravel Rally Evo caliper which is used and needs to fit under a 15in rim, so they capacity to stop is pretty good.

Good pads, fluid and you'll be sweet. I run usually Winmax W6.5 pads on the road,

Just renewed the front brakes on my PFL. Completely Standard set up.
For anyone needing new caliper carriers & standard calipers, i can confirm that they are common to a few other cars & you can shop around rather than pay a premium for those listed as EC5A/EC5W VR4 items.

It's hardly worth buying new pistons & a rebuild kits when you can buy a pair of new shiny calipers online for £90 delivered & a pair of carriers for £50.

Front Carrier--MR307282. Common to Outlander, Lancer, Citroen C-Crosser. (just make sure it's listed for 294/295mm discs)

    Caliper - LH. MR950176, MR249964, MR370775.
    Caliper - RH. MR950177, MR249964, MR370775.

Shop around with those part no's - these twin piston (43mm) brake calipers are common to quite a few others (Outlander, Lancer, Peugeot 4007 (2.2)2008-2013, Citroen C-Crosser (2.2) 2007-2012, Citroen C8.

I've just fitted new carriers & calipers that were supplied as outlander items. Perfect fit. If they last another 22yrs, like the last set, I'll be happy
