rubber seal throttle body to air intake elbow fix

Hi Guy and Girls just thought i would share a fix i cam up with that seems to work well.

This is a common issue that lots of people suffer with.
the two issue that have been noted are

    issue 1
The rubber seal get contaminated with oil and expands and is very difficult to put it back in as it slips and slides out of place and tends to kink and not seal very well.

    Issue 2
The seal has split and is not possible to use.

The fix for it is a fabric tape.
the tape is designed to use for wrapping wiring looms to make them neater, there is no special insulating properties or anything like that purely for neatness.

    Application
Clean both surfaces before applying the tape, throttle body and inside elbow.
only apply one or two layers of tape i have done both and both work. just make sure the tape is lower than the lip on the throttle body. this ensures the tape does not get ruffed up when you slide the elbow on and off.
In the pics below the elbow has been on and off about 10 times and you can see the tape is just starting to ruff up, but if does just pull it off and put some more on it is stupidly cheap tape and it just works.

here is a link to the type of tape i used.

Interesting. I have just started to have the popping off under pressure problem (!!?!!) So this could be useful info. I ordered a mikalor but it was too wide to fit. I have now ordered a Murray Clamp which should be here in the next few days.

i was in the same position as you the seal hed been contaminated with oil and it swelled up and would never fit correctly and it had split in places and would not seal any more.

even if you just want a temp fix it will do the job until you get something else, but i have been using this fix since i rebuilt my engine and that was over 6000 miles ago and i have never had the elbow blow off and i have been running 1.5 bar boost to really test the head bolt mod. so far the heads have not suffered the normal head lift, as when you use the factory stretch bolt and run high boost the head gasket failure always follows. well all of my 3 engines have suffered with this. i have been ragging the sh*t out of my engine to try and get it to fail on the head bolts but all is good so far.
