    AYC advice please!

    Hi everyone,

Im getting my car ready for summer and mot, but unfortunately the last time I was out driving the AYC and abs light came on

If I remember right, the ABS light lit up first, followed by Ayc light.. am I right in thinking it makes a difference in what order the lights come on to indicate what is actually wrong?

Anyway, I did the flashy method and this is what came up:

11 Front Right Wheel speed sensor
13 Rear Right Wheel speed sensor
14 Rear Left wheel speed sensor
    15 wheel speed sensor system
    22 22 Wheel-Speed Sensor (FL) System
    27 2WD/4WD Systematic Detection Switch
    32
33 SUTOP PURANPU SUITCHI system (ON disconnection or failure

I’ve done no visual inspections of the wheel speed sensors yet, but that is where I had planned to start my investigating.
I don’t have any experience with AYC related issues, so I’d like to pick the brains of the AYC experienced on where you guys would start, or most likely causes?

Thanks in advance for any info!

    Cheers, Alex

I would reset the codes (battery disconnect) then go for another drive until the lights appear again (or for a few miles). Then pull the codes again. This will at least eliminate any stored codes that it may have previously thrown without putting the warning lights on.

What Nev said. Common now is issues with the toothed ring on the drive shaft, just inside the bearing. If that has corrosion or a crack then the wheel speed is off which upsets abs and ayc.

Thanks for your input Nev & Nick, I’ll start with clearing the codes as Nev has suggested, hopefully then it may narrow down which area the fault is coming from. And then investigate that area further, maybe to find what you mentioned Nick.

The symptoms I’m getting is the AYC kicking in whilst driving in a straight line, sometimes hits three bars but have decided to pull the fuse for AYC to prevent any serious damage. So to me it sounds like the wheel sensors are working but not reading correctly, maybe because of the corroded teeth?

Once I know, I’ll update here!

Ayc can be affected by tyre pressures, worth a check.
The ayc system uses the abs sensors for information, so a fault in one system may show in both.
I’ve had problems in the past with the sensor wiring inning and wearing through causing a short.

Just for reference, am I right in thinking; the 3 lights for the AYC, they merely indicate how hard the system is working to correct the car, not an indication as to which axle etc is affected??
