Question Anybody know this car ?

Anybody on here know or own this car ?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mitsubish...53.m1438.l2649

Eyeing it up as a potential spares car for mine.
Ok, it looks like it might be a bit rough, but for £1300 you wouldn't expect much. Being in Norway, importing parts is expensive so a whole car might work out cheaper, but with clattery lifters and low oil pressure at idle I'd be worried about it's ability to actually make it the 1500 miles home.
The thought of standing at the side of the autobahn with a seized motor doesn't really appeal to me.

Once they start rattling, how long do they normally go for, is it a rattle of death or can they be nursed for years ?

I've no problem rebuilding engines, just done an Alfa Busso, a Ford V8 and the turbo lump from the Alpine, so if I got it back I'd have a spare lump to fettle with over winter.

Not in the UK till the end of June, so no panic if I was to let this one slip, just doing some window shopping....

My lifters were ticking for 9 years and 100,000 miles. I only replaced them because I had the cam covers off to replace the gaskets, as I had a bit of an oil weep.

I'd first replace the oil pressure switch - it's known that they can fail, and you get some flickering from them - it's a £10 part and it might just be a dodgy switch, rather than anything actually causing low oil pressure!

Oil light flicker at low idle can be the sensor. I had this happen a long time ago and I thought I was looking at a rebuild. I got a new oil pressure sensor (£12 I think) and all was good!.
You could always do an oil change and fill with a heavier oil for the journey.
It's a bit odd in that the strut top area under the AC pipes on the drivers side and near the fuse box on the passenger side look to be ok, this is usually a problem rust area, BUT, the strut brace and the intercooler pipes look like a thousand years old!!!?.
Tappets are noisy for ever with No problem.
probably worth it for the parts

As above. Lifters are no big issue, just a big noise and the oil light flicker at idle is 99% a tired sensor rather than an actual pressure issue.

Seen few times mistaken bottom end rattle with tappets noise. If rattle gets significantly worse at 3k revs and above, then with low pressure light it's rather worrying sign.
