    Rebuilding brake calipers

I've got a rebuild kit from viamoto for the front calipers.
All the seals, pistons, slider bolts... the lot

Does anyone have any tips as to how is best to get the dust seal snap ring into its grove in the caliper body

I've got it 95% there but it's not sitting perfectly and its bugging me. The pistons are already in the caliper.

    Thanks

The pistons must be fully retracted. Then it should be easy if the dust cover fits properly in the clean groove. I carefully use a small screwdriver for the final push on the snap ring. Use a lot of temperature resistant grease for mounting and against corrosion.

That's what I figured. I was seating the seal (covered in grease) then feeding the snap ring into the grove in the seal afterwards

I'm thinking in the areas that it's not seating 100% that there must be a small imperfection (rust or something) despite my best efforts at the time to ensure they were clean.

Trouble is it's going to be tricky to clean it out again now that the piston is in the bore, but I'm sure I'll manage.

    Thanks!

If you have done the repair properly, the piston can easily come out of the claw again. I do it with a bicycle pump. Good luck!

The bore looked good and clean. Inner square seal went in perfectly (lubricated with brake fluid) and the piston slid back nicely. Although I couldn't push it with my fingers so I used a rewind tool and it gave next to no resistance.

To remove the pistons in the first place I was using the brake servo to pump the pistons out as I had no other way at the time.

I'm hoping to nab my mates compressor and air tank setup soon enough along with a ton of other stuff hes got that he cant use as he's moved and had to leave a lot behind at his parents.

Might be worth popping the pistons back out again and getting something like a dremel with a small wire wheel to clean the snap ring grove once and for all.

Thanks for your help so far. Its invaluable
