    Brake upgrade

Has anyone ever upgraded their complete braking system on their Galant vr4? Finding mine aren’t that great and any suggestions would be great 👍

Mitsubishi evo Brembo callipers are a direct fit, that’s what are on mine! Look nice and brake well. Not sure if all Evos (4-9) are a direct fit?! Will have to dig more info

I think the Evo callipers are the way to go, I’d imagine most of the owners on here have gone down that route as it’s easy to fit and much better than standard. But could be pricey to switch over as a set of callipers on ebay are selling for about £450. Might be worth looking into EBC yellow stuff or similar sport brake pads for the standard brakes, would be a cheaper option (short term) but unsure how much of a difference they would make, i know they’re meant to be good!

Evo 5 to 9. Front disc is 320mm rear is 300mm.

Performance Friction, DS2500 or Carbotech pads all have good reputation but the Carbotechs can squeal a bit.

If you have a facelift VR4 then they re a straight fit, if its a pre-facelift then you'll need the later front hubs as well.

They also don;t fit under the standard 16" wheels so you'll need aftermarket Evo 5 to 9 wheels are a popular choice.

There are loads of posts on here about Brembos.

5-9 will fit on a facelift car with shorter....or longer sorry I don’t remember bolts new evo hoses will be needed and on a pre face lift you will need to swap hub carriers
Best upgrade you can do to a Vr4

If you have a pfl car you will need the front hub carriers from a fl car.
Front evo brembos are a direct swap on to fl hubs.
Rears are direct fit to both pfl & fl. But you will need evo rear brake lines as the rear brembos have a banjo fitting unlike the stock calipers that are normal pipe nuts.

I used to run mintex m1144 pads at front on stock calipers with ss braided hoses, and stock calipers with ss braided hoses and ferrodo ds2500 pads at the back. That set up would stop the car like it had hit a wall.

Think all evo 4-7 brembos are compatible.
Sure someone will be along shortly to confirm or correct that

If it's a genuine 99 car, it will be a facelift. Best way to be sure is post some pics (we're all experts, don't you know!! ) or your chassis number, starting EC5W-, if you want to.

The back ends are different and not interchange able. of you have a face lift rear tailgate and lights its a facelift. If the rear is pre facelift then its a pre.
you cannot change the back ends without major surgery, welding and cutting etc.

I have been through a few brake set ups over the years.
The Best I have had and still have on is Performance Friction Floating discs all round, with Performance Friction Pads.
Expensive but work very well and have never overheated on me. Also never sneaked or squealed.

Photos in my garage page on here.
