rear diff needed

Hi all, just had diff failure diagnosed, more details to follow but Im putting out an early post before I know full details.

Does anyone have a standard diff for sale and is it a doable DIY job?

Whats the mileage on it and How much would you want including postage to Sheffield. Thanks for the reply by the way.

He diagnosed diff pinion gone and recommends changing the whole diff which I agree with.

ANyone know how much that should cost, how long it should take and if a DIYer could do it?

Does anyone want the job?

The usual diff failure is that the case flexes and you strip a tooth somewhere, which wedges itself and cracks the case (or blows a hole in it!). A good indication of internal failure is that the AYC clutch pack and diff fluids have mixed, so when you drain them, they are the same colour.

I would have thought an experienced mechanic could it in 3-5 hours, including bleeding the AYC. You ideally need a four post lift or four axle stands - mainly for the bleeding. But it's essentially something like this:

1. Take the back wheels off;
2. Undo the bottom suspension arms;
3. Pull driveshafts out of diff;
4. Unbolt propshaft from diff;
5. Undo the two AYC actuator circuit pipes from the diff;
6. Unbolt the diff from the carrier and remove.

Then refitting the new diff is the reverse of the above.

Then fill the diff with the new AYC fluid and gear oil.

And finally, bleed the AYC by putting it in 2nd/3rd (make sure all the wheels are on and the brakes aren't grabbing), medium revs, and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, which should be activating the green bars, all while someone else operates one bleed nipple at a time until no more air comes out. If the red AYC light comes on, just turn it off and restart the engine. Make sure the AYC actuator circuit reservoir in the boot is kept topped up!

It’s a fairly easy diy job you can also use a sayc diff from an evo with some spacers
