Alternative VR4 Big Brake Upgrade Evo X

    Hi All,
    EVO X (Evo 10)
    Brake upgrade for VR4.

This upgrade will work with the VR4 facelift Hub Carriers.
This is a front Brake upgrade. It is advisable to upgrade the rears to Evo 5 - 9 brembo callipers which will bolt straight on to the standard hub carrier.

    EVO X DISCS
Evo X has 350mm brembo Floating Discs. and brembo Callipers.
The callipers are different to the Evo 5 - 9 callipers due to the factory 350mm discs. (Evo 5 - 9 are 320mm)

Brembo Floating 350mm Discs retail are £385 each, but you can usually find them with an offer, Eurocarparts had them at 50% off so £385 a pair. This week they are 37% off, deals come and go all the time.

    https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/bremb...disc-10469171A

There are other non floating discs available from around £200 a pair (non floating, non grooved, dimpled).
Best idea is to wait until there is an offer and get the floating discs for £385 a pair.

    Evo X Brembo Callipers
The Evo X callipers are different to the EVO 5 - 9 evo callipers
(Due to the disc size being 350mm, instead of evo 5 - 9 at 320mm)
The callipers have longer leg area where the bolt holes are
(so they sit further out to accommodate the 350mm discs)

The Evo X brembo discs use 14mm bolts to hold them to the hub carrier.
    The Evo 5 - 9 use 12mm bolts.
VR4 with facelift hub carriers use the evo 5 - 9 12mm bolts.

BUT, the hole centres are exactly the same.
SO, you can drill out the bolt holes in the hub carriers to take the 14mm bolts.
(no threads involved just bigger holes. The bolts go through the hub carrier and thread into the calliper).

The Evo X rear callipers do not fit.
The evo 5 - 9 rear brembo callipers fit onto the standard VR4 hub carrier.

Only other issue is you will require 18" wheels to accommodate the bigger discs and the callipers being further out.

SO, Parts you need to do the upgrade:
    Evo X 350mm discs
    Evo X front Brembo Callipers.
18" wheels to accommodate the bigger (350mm) discs and callipers.

Work required to make it fit:
drill out the holes on the hub carriers from 12mm to 14mm.

The brembo evo 5 - 9 braided flexi brake lines can be used, or you can use the Evo X ones, both fit.

I had a set of Evo X callipers and sussed out the rest of the info.
I have not done this upgrade as at the moment I have Performance friction Floating discs (320mm) and I just refurbished my brembo callipers, and I also have two sets of evo 8 wheels, one set with winter tyres and one set with semi Slicks for the summer. so for me to change at the moment I would have to spend a bit to get the discs and the wheels and tyres.
At the moment I am very happy with the set up I have, So I will wait till the current set up and tyres I have is nearer needing replacement and then go for this.

I’m seeing the Brembo floating discs on ebay for £450 a pair free postage. So this upgrade is not out of price range if it’s up against a Performance Friction set up.

Those calipers are looking great! The clear coat on mine are starting to peel now
You might also want to check the length of the bolts, from memory they are a bit too long and I had to shorten them.
