Anyone done an auto to manual conversion?

Hello folks, long time away, been somewhat busy in the mancave.. Many jobs being completed on the coty, several years of purchases finally being put to use now well into the process of tearing out the gearbox,, pedal box gear lever and cables fitted. Have a manual ec u (I think!) to fit, starting to worry tho, so many electrical connectors will be left over! Will the autobox ecu simply be removed or left in place? Will I have to hotwire Park signal to start the car? I probably have other questions but thought I'd make a start. Wish me luck!

I did mine leave the auto ecu in place makes no odds .
You must join two wires from the park signal .
If using an Evo 7 clutch be careful as some pressure plates catch on the castings on the inside of the bell housing.
I found this out the hard way and had to remove everything again ,grind a little off the castings and refit it all a second time
possibly the clubs first manual super

Hi Adam just read your post, good going! Useful info about the auto selector pins, did u leave the gearbox ecu in place? I thought it would need to come out to give more room for selector cables to be honest. And I'm unclear on what you.have dome to the gearbox end cable bracket and why?

Ooh crikey that doesn't sound so good, I ain't keen on taking it out for a second time! I'm using a Nick Mann flywheel conversion, a fidanza evo7-10 flywheel and a stage 2 competition clutch that I have lovingly gazed upon for far too long! Are we talking strengthening ribs in the bellhousing? Im already plotting how I can measure/check such a thing

No, I should have made that clearer it was an fto box but the engine is very similar,

Aye, Father has an FTO as well, his is an auto tho, I've had a look over his engine for inspiration. Not sure how close casting wise the ftp and vr4 boxes are tho so I'm thinking fit flywheel and kit to car, take some measurements then whip it off and fit flywheel and clutch to gearbox input shaft and measure clearances, best plan I've got for now lol

Yes the ribs caused me the issue.all was well on a cold start up ,but once warn and operating the clutch it would make a clattering sound .
A real PITA if I'm truthful

I had a manual vr4 flywheel and used an Evo 7 clutch .
I'd imagine you won't have the same issue since your using an adapter,as Nick would have this accounted for

Yes the adapter and evo flywheel/clutch should be fine. No issues that I know of in around 100 applications. Evo pressure plate on VR4 flywheel is known to be close at best though.

Four big pins on auto selector switch are reverse lights and inhibitor switch. Electrically that is all you need to do to get going.

I did mine last year, I put a evo flywheel on and crudely cut a spacer out of another flywheel, and I put an evo box on as I could find a vr4 one, the only drama I had was trying to get it started, I shorted the wires but it was a no go, I ended up putting a relay in which was fine for a month then melted, then I worked out they don't have a relay for good reason, so I ended up tracing the ignition wire and going from there, so I was button start for a long while,i also had abs/ tcl lights because the auto ecu wasn't connected, so I reconnected that and all is well, im just swapping out my clutch because it got flooded in York and the clutch has been ruined, it was only a cheap techniclutch one, I don't recommend them for several reasons! this time im going exedy stage one, only because that's at the limit of what I can afford, if you need any help just let me know, I am a total noob though !
