Suspension upgrade - are Bilsteins worth the money over stock shocks?

The Shocks are on their way out on my vr4, they’re standard and a bit boat like (not sure if this is because they’re standard or more because they’re very worn! Or perhaps both?). I also have two snapped lowering springs too! So I’m looking to replace the shocks and springs, I have been looking at Bilstein B8s, any experience with these? I don’t want anything too harsh, it’s for road not track hence why I haven’t been considering coilovers, but I still want to avoid the boat like cornering. So, bilsteins?

And is there much difference in buying expensive branded lowering springs compared to unbranded?

Any advice will help, otherwise I’ll just use my own judgment Thanks! Alex

Driven about 15 different vr4s and the best combo for road use IMHO is tein springs with bilstein b6 shocks.

Thanks for your advice, good to know Bilsteins are the way to go. Have you experienced b8s? As they’re specifically designed to work with lowering springs I thought they would give a better ride? Or b6s still feel better over the two? -Alex

I didn't drive on B8 so not sure what's the difference but they more expensive and according to bilstein Web and as you say only difference is they designed to work with shorter spring. IMO not worth to pay much more over B6 ones.

I have the Tein springs and shocks and think they are a good combo but I am not sure if they are B6 will have to find a photo to upload.

I’ve been looking into this, TEIN have discontinued springs for galant/Legnum, demon Tweeks sell a small range of springs for our cars though.

If you see anywhere selling old stock of Teins let me know, I’d like a set too! Thanks

Hi, you just need the spring rate you want and the diameter and length and you can buy from various sources
D2 suspension let you buy sprigs separately for £30 each but not sure if they are still going?

Found some info for anyone following, spring rate for Galant front: 4.3kg/mm Rear:3.2kg/mm E79C26A2-F450-4254-B6E9-7BADB43C4F34.png

Edit: just realised, this is for non vr4 and for US version, not sure if it’s the same or accurate!!

Thanks for pointing that out, think I may end up going the coilover route if I can find a pothole friendly set
