    Air Con/Ventilation Unit Disconnection

    Good afternoon all,

The vent fan motor is getting a bit noisy so I investigated the possibility of removing the fan to identify if its a motor/motor bearing defect or the impeller.

I managed to get two of the three bolts securing the fan motor housing out, but the last bolt is stuck right in the recess where the footwell meets the underside of the fan unit and it looks like a pain to remove.

If I remove the glovebox mount metal strip and remove the ventilation unit (white lump) with the vent fan attached:

    1. Will they come apart easily?
    2. Are there any seals that will be damaged by parting the connection to the air con unit?
    3. Does this unit weigh a tonne?

Even if I could somehow manipulate the last fan motor housing bolt in-situ, I'd never get it back in again..

    Cheers,

    Jamie

Sorry, not a part that I've ever removed. Might even be a dash out job! I will have a look on ASA in a bit to see if that sheds any light on it.

Doesn't look like there's a seal to disturb. You might get away with just refitting it with two bolts.

I did it many years ago to remove a leaf that was jammed in the fan. Unfortunately it was nearly 20 years ago and I don't remember the procedure! I do remember it was awkward.

Thank you for the feedback. Luckily the three fixings are comination pozidrive/hex head so with appropriate small ratchet ring spanner the third nuisance fixing could be refittable. All I need to do is dislocate my spine in two places to reach it and see it..

Oh yes, you have to lie across the door sill like you're permanently in the middle of the high jump!
