    Easter weekend

As I can't go anywhere or buy anything, I thought I'd start to strip her down and clean up the tin worm. What's everyone else been up to?

I'm working on my Anglia currently. In a few months I hope to start on the Legnum. It needs a lot of rust repairs, so I need to get a bit more proficient with the welder first!

I'm trying to find U-Bolts online for the rear seats in my car to fit when I next see it again

If anyone is working on their car this weekend would they mind awfully measuring the UBolts that the back seats clip on to welded onto the back body if they get two seconds spare?

    Picture of them for reference

    UBlot.png

Ideally width, depth and thickness of bolts would be perfect

    Thanks!!

I have a feeling that they are slightly different between saloon and estate. If so, you need to find someone with a UK spec saloon. If no one else does it, I will measure the ones on my Legnum for you but it's too late now for me to venture out to the garage!

No worries Nick - thanks for the offer!

Hopefully someone pings in on their weekend fixups and has a chance to do so but I'll update the thread if I hear either way

This is the U-bolt in a facelift Legnum.

The gap between the two U-bolt centres is 958mm. And on the driver's side, the approximate distance from the U-bolt to the seat back hinge bracket is 350mm.

    Thanks Nev

That's awesome and very much appreciated - thanks so much again and will really help - had to get through the NCT (Irish MOT) last time with the JDM spec flex rear seats in as I had no way of securing the leather ones and that is actually a requirement of their test!

I thought they wouldn't even bother, but the guy went round and shook on the seats of the car so just as well I changed it as it's an immediate failure!!!!

With these measurements I should be able to put in U bolts for next year and not have to be there at midnight the night before switching out the rear seats and securing the battery with cable wire

    Thanks again

    Alex

    No worries!

As Nick says though, there might be a difference between saloon and estate. The U bolts are probably the same, but the mounting points could be in a slightly different position. Although as you have both the fixed and the folding seats at your disposal, you could measure the distance between the latching points on the rear seat backs themselves.

Salon U bolts are thinner than Estate, that much thinner you won't be able to lock saloon seats to estate ubolts. Hope that makes sense of, have issue when swapped interior from saloon to estate, need to source U bolts and then they lock fine.

Thanks for the tip - by thinner do you mean the thickness of the bolt itself?

From Nev's measurements his were 7mm but to get a replacement I have a choice of an M6 bolt or an M8 bolt so if the salon bolts are thinner do you think 6mm would do it?

Here's the sizes they come in and dimensions for reference

    Thanks @adaxo - that's awesome!

So judging by your calliper shots of your adapter saloon seats bolts, and if I'm reading the markings correctly, that looks like it is 8mm thick x 69mm long x 46mm wide

Which going by the bolt sizes above would most likely suit a M8 30x30mm bolt as this has dimensions of 8mm thick x 92mm long (84mm + 8mm) x 47mm wide (31mm + 8mm + 8mm) and as the thread is 54mm then we have an extra 23mm (92mm - 69mm) of thread behind the seat to secure it safely :-)

As my car is in (rural) Ireland, and I'm in the UK, I have to order things before I go there and then fit them when I arrive - this will really help (*when I can get back there again!!)

    Thanks again

    Alex

It's about 10mm thick, and IMHO you better off email to scrappers on ebay and other places like 247spares and get this off breaker, may not look like but its odd thing to replicate, been there b4 and get set off scrapped car.

Thanks Adam - I've put a request in to 247spares to see if anyone has a set.

In the meantime I've been trying to decipher the measurement marks on your Clark vernier calliper pictures to get the exact widths but the cm marks seem to start half way through the jaw measurements unless I'm reading them wrongly?

The measurement you're looking for is the 0 on the body, and the 1 on the moving bit. That's 10mm.

On the other one, it's lined up around the 7-8 mark, so that's 7-8mm.

With the jaws closed, all the 0s will line up nicely!

So it's whatever the number on the middle 'ruler' bit that the 0 on the left jaw bit is pointing to
