cop coil pack conversion information for a toddler

Hi, I have done lots of searching and Adaxo sent me to a great post explaining the coil pack conversion but I dont think he realised I have the brain of a toddler.

Could someone talk me through how I do the coil pack conversion from the beginning, Starting from opening the bonnet, like you are talking to a toddler.

SO far I understand I have to buy 6 Honda coil packs, which i think sit directly on my existing plugs, then somehow wire them to the loom that currently connects to my existing coil packs, of which I currently have 3 due to the fact they control 2 sparks...or I might need to buy some connectors and wire them to the Honda coil packs and plug them in directly?

I also understand I have to fashion a bracket for the rears as they are too long and sit proud.

I think I could follow the diagram once I understand the concept as a whole.

I have a missfire and dont want to keep buying coil packs btw.

    Many thanks for your patience,
    Paul

Basically, if you can/have changed spark plugs, then you've done most of the work, so that's the best starting point in terms of a guide.

The differences is that you will need to do the wiring changes, and the available coils won't stay in place without help of a fabricated braket/plate to affix everything together.

Cheers, so I buy some coils, plug the new coils onto the spark plugs, buy some connectors and wire them to the loom, wire by wire replacing the old coil pack wires?

    Many thanks

Front ones bolt in original holes, rear needs bracket to be made, there's couple options to do it, OR you can order whole plug and play kit from OZVR4 forum.

Great, thanks for that. I am willing to have a go myself, Its starting to become clearer.
Once i can get my head round the wiring diagram Ill pick up the parts, looks like a bit of soldering, coils, connectors and additional wire. I have an opportunity to get a plate cut and some O rings for the rear bank if I can locate a template.
Thank you for the advice so far lads

the thing thats holding me back on this one is Im still unsure if i need to buy connectors with pigtails to solder onto the loom or if there is another way to do it.
If I need connectors I was going to go to a breakers and get them from the car the coils are designed for, is that the thing to do?
    Can anyone advise?

Once you know which coil packs you are going to use, just go a scrap yard and get the coil pack connector off the wiring loom.
    Or buy new.
Just Google coil pack connector for the car you got the coil pack off. There are lots of suppliers
There is no point in me recommending a toyota coil pack connector if you are going to use honda coils.

Personally I don't see much point in running COP if you leave it in wasted spark configuration.
If you are desperate for new coils as yours a shagged. Then yes coil on plug will work in wasted spark config. But you are not getting the benefit of giving the coil more feel time at high rpm .
But that is only my opinion.

Yes Dave biggest benefit is price difference as new genuine coils are about £160 each, that was the price when I was looking for options, and you need 3 it's a painful amount, second hand ones? Earliest what you can get will have 18 years, they may last month, year or forever.
Cost aside, I see on my own eyes spark strength size and its massive difference on denso Honda type R than on my genuine ones, car start faster when crank and never ever miss fired on LPG which is good enough for me.
@jahooli easiest way it to go on scrap yard and purchase coils then ask for as much loom as possible with them, i did it this way and still paid only for coils.

i will have 3 version for sale.

i will have a wiring only COP conversion.

a wiring COP conversion plus all required mounting brackets as well.

and a COP wiring conversion plus mounting brackets and new coil packs.

i an ship to anywhere in the world at the your expense.

i have not worked out the exact cost, i have enough parts for 4 full kits with coil packs.
i am hoping the kit will come in about £200 for full kit with 6 coil packs. this is just a rough guess as i will have to go through all my paper work and do a proper costing
i will offer the kit without coil packs. Just wiring harness, mounting brackets and nuts bolts washer.
i will offer the kit as wiring harness only.

i have got a lot on at the moment as i have a full time job lots of extra hours on top of normal.
this is why i say i need a little time to finalise the details.

the reason for me making the COP kit is because the standard mitsi coil packs are stupidly expensive at about £160-£180 each, if you can evern buy them any more as i believe mitsi have stopped producing the standard coil packs so all the one you can buy now are new old stock and they will run out very quickly.
my coil packs on the VR4 are failing and i needed to replace them for my own use. so i thought if i need and COP kit then other people will need a COP as well.
but there is a massive difference between lashing something up for your own personal use and actually selling a product for others to use which has your name on it.

i am an electronics engineer by trade and i design and build PCB for a living, for a mass spectrometer company Waters.

What is holding me up at the moment is while doing some on car testing.
i tested the COP kit with varying levels of boost as we all know that it is harder to ignite a more highly compressed fuel air mixture than a low compressed fuel air mixture.
i test my basic COP conversion kit at boost levels 0.7 bar, 1.0 bar, 1.3 bar, and 1.6 bar.
the kit worked well up to 1.3 bar, but when i pushed it to 1.6 bar i started to get a misfire.
so i would like to do some modification and testing to ensure it is up to any boost requirement that anyone that uses this kit will not have any issues.
i have built some modified wiring looms to ensure the full potential of this COP kit is available to use.
I just have to test them.

in my normal working life, i don't do half measures for anything.
so i am not going to start now.

i would rather delay the release slightly of COP conversion kit than release something that is not up to the job in the most extreme conditions.

i have been running this cop conversion for months now, doing a long term test and everything is great apart from the extreme high boost levels.
i am talking disconnection all boost control and letting the standard turbos make as much boost as they can as quickly as they can and not having any spark issues.
so i need it to be right for my own personal indulgence.

Missfire at this high boost is not necessarily the coil pack problem, Btw you should aim to offer factory replacement setup which work as should in factory standard conditions then you have no problem with ppl blowing 1.5bar and complaining about your kit, great you aim so high but there always going to be an issue if you push anything to or even well over the limit. Most of us want working ignition setup on mild boost setting anyway.

@Davezj takes the time you need. However, I also believe that most do not drive 1.6 bar Boost. As I said I have very strong interest in a complete kit and would like to buy one from you.

There was also another user who offers a complete kit but that is very expensive. Possibly you can write with him times as he has solved the problem with the boost.

in the OzVR4 forum the guy is called naughtika
