Power Steering vacuum valve idle assist

Can anyone tell which way round the valve should be connected. when looking at the engine from the pulley end, you have a left and right port on the valve.

the valve is located on the pulley side of the engine on the hard pipe coming from the pump to the steering rack. about 6 inch from the pump.

There are 2 ports on the valve one goes to the inlet manifold and the other goes to the big elbow pipe on the front of the throttle body.
i am making the assumption that the valve is a vacuum assist valve for the power steering. when the engine is at idle the valve will open and allow more assistance to the power steering based on the vacuum pressure in the manifold e.g. when the engine is at idle or very close to idle.

with the throttle body closed the differential vacuum pressure will be max valve, as the throttle body opens the differential vacuum pressure will start to equalise and the additional power steering assist will reduce and become normal power assist level.

so my question is which way round do the 2 ports get connected?
    does it matter?
i do not have original pipes to the valve, so i don't have any colour coding on them and the valve no longed has any paint on it.

    any help greatly appreciated.

Ah thanks for that adam, that is what i need.

Right port is a throttle body elbow.

    Left port is manifold.

assuming the pipes don't swap over under the foam cover.

I always assumed it didn't matter. Try swapping it round and seeing what happens?

Are the two ports connected? If air passes through then it almost certainly doesn't matter.
