here is a video that explains how the coil packs are tested and which is best performer.

you can use a yaris coil pack but it depends if you want to sand a little bit off every coil pack to make it fit down the plug hole in the engine.
you can use honda coil packs they fit in the spark plug holes but they are a bit long and you have to use some kind of spacer and rackets.

you can use any coil pack that fits and provides the require output energy.

don't ask me what coil packs fit and what have the correct output energy. i have not done any testing.

maybe you should buy a load of coil pack and do the testing then share your findings with us.

You also need to consider current draw (is the wiring sufficient) and dwell times (how long they take to charge up before they will spark) - incorrect dwell times could cause either too much current draw, or them sparking too early. So this is another consideration when choosing coils, as you will almost definitely need your ECU tuning to take advantage of this.

So - once you add in cost of the coils, spacers/brackets, connector plugs, and ECU modifications, especially if you have to outsource any/all of that work, it might actually be just as cheap to buy new replacement OEM coilpacks and drop them in.

non turbo v6 have completely different ignition setup via distributor and 6 leads, but seriously its 2 second to ask google :-) but on the other hand there's so little posts here it may need to be liven up a bit

Yes I have couple na v6 prior v6tt
And yes FTO have similar setup to v6tt not sure about length of coils but rocker cover at front bank is straight swap to VR4 so FTO colis should fit too.

FTO ones are different coil pack and they will have a different spec otherwise mitsi would have fitted the same coil to both engines, it would be cheaper for mitsi to do that.
the FTO ones obviously works i am not questioning that, but the FTO coil pack will probably have a different dwell requirement, or current charge consumption, or and different output energy.

Mitsubishi are not going to go to the trouble of designing a new coil pack if they don't need to. they would have used the FTO one.

i can't remember if the dewl table is one of the tables that has been found in the ECU and is available and viewable or editable.
if not then it could be measured with a scope on the car. well i could measure the dwel time, current ramp, and the output voltage wave form.

Dwell is a configurable table in the ECU. The FTO GR ones are the ones that fit better, if I remember. But yes, would be better to be able to view the FTO's ECU tune and double check dwell times.

yeah the FTO coil pack look almost the same but they do not have the same large boxy cover over the top of the coil pack it is smaller box shape on the top and the second output is visible as a cylinder running along the top of the box on the FTO coil pack. if my memory serves me right.
i have one FTO and VR4 coil packs up stairs somewhere in the back bedroom of wonderment.

There’s also difference in shape between vr4 coils, pfl are bulky boxy, fl are much smaller with what you described as cylinder on top. Never hold and see fto one’s.
