Passenger Footwell Leak - Coming Through Vent Fan Intake

After a week of being parked up over christmas, I gave my Galant a once-over before returning to work tomorrow. The front passenger footwell was damp with water.

I removed the glovebox, I can see water dropping from the join between the black AC unit and the white vent fan unit. I removed the cabin filter, it was damp. I stuck my phone in to record a video of the fan itself, there is some water sat in the housing that is presumably working its way out through the module joint.

The sponge gasket between the top of the vent fan unit and the shell is soaking as well, so I am fairly confident the water is coming in through the vent unit fresh air intake.

Does anyone know where said air intake hole is and how to get to it from 'outside'?

I also checked under the bonnet, there is a copex shrouded wiring loom that passes through the bulkhead, the rubber grommet had a small hole in it so I daubed some sealant in case that was the problem. I also cleaned some crud away behind that loom and under the wiper motor.

Next step is to pop off the plastic scuttle panel when the weather is better, and check in there for any blockages.

Almost definitely the drain tube for the A/C is blocked, or if it's got a sunroof, the drain tube coming down that windscreen pillar is blocked.

Here's an image of the drain tube for the A/C.

The other option could be the heater matrix is leaking coolant.

The leak is exacerbated when it rains so I doubt it is the heater matrix. I’ve attached a photo of the top of the vent fan unit where I believe water is coming in from. Where can this inlet be accessed from without taking the vent fan unit out?

Update - I’ve taken the scuttle panel off and had a look inside. There is a riser for the fresh air intake that is intended to stop drain water getting in. Where it is welded to the bottom of the drain channel it is badly corroded. I tested this by pouring a small amount of water in and it came through the top of the vent fan unit.

The next problem is how to fix it. Has anyone had the same issue before? The proper repair would be to clean it up and weld it back on, but access is a problem. Can it be reached be taking of the front left wing?

    Any thoughts welcomed.
